Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 70 | The basis of the story is rooted in Christian mythology, keeping in touch with the Christ theme of the first film. The machines continue to attempt to penetrate Zion, but they cannot, because they are not human enough, or clever enough, or whatever, I don't know - they just can't. So they devise a way to fuck with Zion from the inside out. Since the machines outnumber the humans, the war must be fought where the humans have the advantage - The Matrix. Neo goes in and attempts to access into the program - not the Matrix itself, but the AI that control the software - but the agents have already set a trap for him. I'm not going to go into further details partially since I didn't get to finish my read, but I'll just say I'm pretty worried at this point. You ever watch Star Trek and see those episodes on the holodeck, where there are realities within realities and mindbending shit like that? The point is, where the film is going at times has already been done before. I've seen glimpses of the [storyboards] and the action looks pretty sweet, there's some insane sequences, including notes and scribbles referring to camerawork that I don't recognize. But I already expected the action to be heartstopping - I'm puzzled about the story, and where they are going with it. I'll also say that there's some nice, creepy/ironic moments about Neo sacrificing himself like Jesus - or being sacrificed by Zion - not really sure which. I'll reserve my final judgment for two things - the finished film, and when I get another chance to hawk at the script. I'll write you again with more on the story and some production details, but know this - I do a lot of talking to the cast and crew, and I'm hearing some buzz about an Empire Strikes Back style twist at the end that's been omitted from the script. Those who claim knowledge of the twist claim they haven't read it. Source : Filmjerk.com This is obviously not written in stone. It's merely conjecture, but interesting nonetheless. The supposed release date is Christmas 2002. With part 3 to follow Summer 2003. I can't wait for these sequels to come out. They both sound like they are going to kick some pretty serious ass. I also read that Neo might be fighting himself in "Reloaded".

Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 70 | Judging simply by the quality of the first movie, I will venture a guess that the sequels will easily live up to expectations. I can't wait to see how the story develops. The wait is killing me, but I will be sooooooo anxious just before the movie comes out. Shit, I can hardly wait to see trailers next summer.

Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 70 | Doc, I would hardly put Jurassic Park on the same level as The Matrix. I will however admit that the Matrix is my favorite movie ever. The only movie besides the Matrix that I saw more than once in the theatre is Star Wars. I would have to say that my infatuation with the Matrix is not solely based on the action and special effects in the movie. But instead, it is based on the story and the theory behind the movie. A.I. taking over the world as we know it is a pretty tripped out thing to explore. The Matrix was obviously only the beginning of this exploration and I think that the sequels will blow us away with the story, as well as what are sure to be fantastic special effects. So yes, I would say that The Matrix sequels should not be held to the same pattern as other half-assed sequels. It's gonna fucking ROCK and if you disagree, I will have to fight you. ;) But seriously, I have high hopes for these movies.

O&A Board Regular Registered: Sep. 00 | Don't get me wrong, I think they might not do such a shitty job on the next two movies also. As a pure entertainment film, I'm sure Matrix 2 and 3 will be spectacular, I was just worried about how well the story will be adapted for the movie screen It is very difficult to make a good book into a good movie. Keeping the run-time reasonable, showing what charecters are thinking, visualization of the certain things, can all be very tough to capture in the same movie. That is why I'm not holding my breath on this one. What does lead me to believe that it might be a good movie, not just a good action flick, is the amount of time they are taking on it. If the production company was just after big bucks fast, they would have doen what was done with Scary Movie 2. They would have pumped out a new sequel in a matter of months to cash in on the popularity of the first. The fact that they are taking years to release the second means they are putting time and effort into the script and into adatation of the story to film. Only time will tell, I just hope it's not all hype From cowardice that dares not know the truth, From laziness that is content with half-truth, From arrogance that thinks it knows the whole truth, Deliver me | ||||

O&A Board Veteran Registered: Sep. 00 | I honestly didn't care for the first movie but will probably see the sequels providing that nothing else is opening that week. Keanu Reeves only did a somewhat passable job acting in Sam Raimi's "The Gift" and they killed my favorite character, Cypher, off. Joey Pantoliano rules. I think the Wachowski brothers might pull of a good action movie and I hope they don't try for anything more than that. Also Jaws II sucked and Lost World Sucked (Jurassic Park 3 will probably suck too). As far as Sequels goes Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal (YES HANNIBAL!!) were both very good sequels to Manhunter (to be remade as Red Dragon) and Temple of Doom was also good, not as good as Raiders though. Raiders kicked fucking ass (sorry just saw Raiders again earlier today since I haven't seen it in awhile. I don't know why people are so anxiously awaiting a fourth Indiana Jones movie, let the trilogy stand. Why must people want to roooon a good thing?). And I also somewhat liked Batman Forever because I liked Tommy Lee Jones in it though if they had made Two FAce more like the comic Twoface and not a guy anxiously waiting for the evil to come through they might have had something more. Empire was better than Star Wars and EVIL DEAD 2 was the best of the Evil Dead Trilogy. Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 70 | The story of the Matrix was excellent. We all know that Keanu has a limited scope when it comes to acting. That being said, his acting was not so horrible that it detracted from the movie, IMHO. If you didn't like the Matrix, I would hardly expect you to like the second. However, comparing its sequel to those of other movies is hardly fair. I think this is a story that could not be told in one movie. Unlike most other movies that could be told in a 30 second tv spot. :p Why am I arguing about a movie that's not even out yet? No reason really, I just hope it's going to be a good movie, and I won't let you people convince me otherwise until we've all seen it.
