| O&A Board Regular Registered: Nov. 00  | I just read that Levar Burton (Jordie LaForge on Star Trek:TNG and star of Reading Rainbow) donated a kidney to his ailing mother. Got me thinking. Who would you be willing to donate a kidney to, or undergo the pain of bone marrow donation for, or something like that? Would you do it for just anybody or just someone special? Have you done it already? You obviously dont need them, so why would you condemn another person to death because of your selfishness? As for sharing organs and the such, my brother donated alot of his blood to me after i was in a serious accident when i was younger. I feel bad, because i know that there is nothing i can ever do to pay him back. He saved my life, thats something i can never let myself forget. And even if it would cause my own death, I'd still probably give it up to save them. As for donating body parts to friends, I'd have to say no. I'd like to keep everything intact in case a family member might need something I have. And Sephiroth, having you alive is thanks enough for your brother. It's obvious how much he loves you.  | ||||

| Psychopath Registered: Feb. 01 | Seph, not be rude at all, and its a touching story,... wouldn't they have just been able to get blood elsewhere? Personally, I'm Jewish and you're supposed to be buried with all your organs, and I don't think religion is really a factor in the conversation as far as talking about "why everyone should fill out there donor card",... religion is the exception rule to everything in this country. In England, they let Sikhs ride motorcycles without helmets because it won't fit over the turban. :)
