O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | I saw this movie. Story is a little weak, but it was a very funny and enjoyable movie. Perfect summer popcorn flick. THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Rush Hour 2" caused serious traffic jams at movie theaters. The buddy-cop sequel starring Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker grossed $66.8 million in its first three days, the biggest comedy debut of all time and the third-best nonholiday opening on record, according to studio estimates released yesterday. The top nonholiday debut came just last weekend when "Planet of the Apes" grossed $68.5 million. However, "Planet of the Apes" followed the pattern of many other big studio movies this summer, opening to huge crowds but taking a nosedive in the second weekend. It fell to second place with $28.5 million, a steep 58% decline from the previous weekend. "Planet of the Apes" has grossed $124.7 million in 10 days. Disney's G-rated modern fairy tale "The Princess Diaries" had a strong third-place debut of $23.2 million. The movie stars Julie Andrews as a queen tutoring her reluctant granddaughter (Anne Hathaway) in the ways of royalty. "Original Sin," a romantic thriller starring Antonio Banderas and Angelina Jolie that was trashed by critics, had a weak sixth-place debut of $6.4 million. "Apocalypse Now Redux," Francis Ford Coppola's new version of his Vietnam War epic, took in $96,000 playing in just two theaters in New York City and Los Angeles, plus a once-a-day screening at a large-screen Imax theater. The film, which adds 49 minutes of previously unreleased footage, expands to the top 20 markets over the next two weekends. The opening for "Rush Hour 2" was double the $33 million that "Rush Hour" grossed in its debut weekend in September 1998. It brought back much of the behind-the-camera talent from the original movie, including director Brett Ratner. "There's that old expression, 'If it's not broken, don't mess with it,' and that's exactly what they did with this one," said David Tuckerman, head of distribution for New Line, which released "Rush Hour 2." The industry remains on track to break its revenue record of $3billion, set in summer 1999. For this weekend, the top 12 movies grossed $163.9 million, up 39% from the same weekend last year. This Week's Top Ten Rank Film This Weekend To Date 1. Rush Hour 2 $66.8M $66.8M 2. Planet of the Apes $28.5M $124.7M 3. The Princess Diaries $23.2M $23.2M 4. Jurassic Park III $12.1M $146.8M 5. O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | Where's the moo shoo? I cannot believe Chris Tucker got 20 million for this movie. I guess after this opening he deserves it though. Basicvally he is typecast for Rush Hour like Brendan Fraser is for the Mummy. It seems these are basically the only movies they can do. Everything else they do suck.

O&A Board Regular Registered: Feb. 01 | The first one was pretty good, I am a HUGE fan of Jackie Chan, he is amazing, and totally has sold out for American Movies. His old work is incredible, all the action and stunts. Ahh, I guess thats what America is all about, selling out. Just ask Lars and Metallica after the black album came out. O&A Board Veteran Registered: Sep. 00 | Hey! I don't post BO receipts, no offense TW. The only time I might post it is if JSBSB is number one the week it comes out. I haven't seen RH2 yet and probably won't. I did see MADE this weekend- it was a good mvoie, could have been better (there's this subplot that while important sort of drags the movie). Favreau and Vaughn have great chemistry and Vaughn wws hysterical. Peter Falk was also pretty good. That movie was Goddamn hilarious but it still is no Pootie Tang. I'm not kidding either, Pootie Tang was one of the funniest movies ever. I hope "American Pie 2" and "Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back" do just as good at the box office as Rush Hour 2. O&A Board Veteran Registered: Sep. 00 | Jay and Silent Bob will not do as good as Rush Hour 2 because Rush Hour 2 appeals to more people and is PG-13. I forgot who I was listening to talking about Rush Hour 2 (it was either O&A or R&F and talking about "oh he can't understand what the guy is saying hah hah hah," "they mistakenly kick each other hah hah hah"). American Pie 2 might do as well but probably will do slightly worse. Kevin Smith is still a cult leader with a movie about pot dealers, bashing Hollywood, rated R and let's face it, Jay and Silent Bob are not for everyone. Not to say the movie won't do moderately well I think this might have fantastic repeat business from Smith fans. Of course if JSBSB end up as number one at the box office- that would be so totally cool. The narrator in Fight Club is the man we will be, Patrick Bateman in American Psycho is the man we want to be Eliza Dushku- Hotter Than Britney
