I have the Sims installed on my computer and when I am in the game it constantly freezes it usually freezes 5 minutes or so after i start playing. Once it froze when it was loading. I have 1.1 patch as well as the nude one and I have lots of official and unofficial skins. Does anyone know what is causing this?

either youve got too much going on in the background (low resources) or the game install might have been corrupt at some point.

if youre on Win98, run msconfig, and go to the startup tab, disable anything you dont need running at startup. then reboot, come back, to a scandisk/defrag (be sure to delete all temp files, excess crap off the machine first).

then reboot again, and try the game - it should work well - if not, then I'm no help to you....

only other thing I can think of might be to update the drivers on the vid and sound card, but I don't think the Sims is all that graphic intensive - personally, never had it or played it, one of those games I meant to get, never got, etc.

This happen any other time with any other game or app?

It happened in Half-Life a lot but it was a problem with Windows because Windows was doing the same thing, I fixed that by getting rid of Winpoet. It has happened in Deus Ex but not often though. Im downloading new drivers now and seeing how that might work.

hope it works dude, usually with me, game lock-ups are cured with new drivers or a defrag - I know how it is tho, really pisses me off to play a good game and have it lock up on my ass.

Is that Windows ME? I've noticed that the same problem happens a lot in WinME, all over the place.

You may have a corrupt skin or something installed. I have downloaded skins that have frozen the game and as soon as I deleted them it worked perfectly. Take a look at what skins and add-ons you've installed lately, and try deleting them.

I reinstalled my graphics drivers and no more freezing. Thanks for your help. And I am running Win ME. It kept freezing constantly before all over the place. In games, on the internet, listening to an MP3. It was so bad that it rebooted all by itself. But I havent had those problems for a while. They just went away. It was too many programs running in the System Tray

Glad to hear the drivers worked! All I keep hearing about WinME is that its a bitch with games and vid cards. Thank God I decided to stick with 98SE (even tho I managed to borrow/burn a copy of ME from a friend). You'd think by now Microsoft would get it fuckin' right.

I just wish game makers would make games for Linux more. It's the most reliable os I have come across. I have had it on my system for a month not one crash yet. Not only does it have less crashes it is less taxing on system resources. For you people that say that Win 2k is really reliable Linux is more reliable than that. Not to mention you can download it for free, get a boxed copy with support for 30 bucks and most programs are free. The biggest plus is that it is open source so bugs are worked out quickly and prices are driven down.
