I have the same router but have not been able to get it to work - thanks for reminding me, I need to get on that. Zonealarm is cool, but hardware firewall support is much gooder.

I think I configured it incorrectly at one point when I tried hooking it up. It has that install-via-the-web feature, and I remember doing all of the settings based on the manual, but whenever I connected it, I couldn't connect to anything. I've had it for a few months, completely forgot about it. I know I couldn't reconfigure it becuase since it wouldn't let me connect to the web, reconfig isnt possible.

Any suggesstions? I think this weekend I'll play around with it, see if I can get ot working - worse case, I'll call their tech support. I can't believe I forgot all about that!

If you type in the ip it shouldn't be a web based one I'm pretty sure it connects to the router address. Or you could just telnet it. You might as well cause you will have to to update the firmware.

Ash, this is a pretty good card for $130 at best buy (which means you can find it cheaper online - I just linked there because I knew they had it). I'm looking to get this one, but best buy actually has the best price on it, and its still out of my league.

I have a GF2 MX card, and bang-for-buck its solid, but the Ti200 and 500 chips in the newer cards are sweeeeeet.

The whole thing is connected to the net through a Motorola Surfboard Cable Modem, which is routed through a Netgear RT314 4 port router/switch. To keep from having a bunch of monitors, I use a Belkin 4 port Omni Cube, which lets all the computers use the same monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

I use a Microsoft Keyboard and Optical Mouse. The monitor is a Viewsonic MB110 21 inch monitor. I also have an Epson 1640 2880 dpi scanner and my Kodak DC280 2.2 Megapixel Digital Camera. The printers are connected via a Netgear PS110 Print Server.

I noticed a disturbing (though not surprising) lack of Macs.

My main machine, the Hackintosh, a.k.a. Edible Plastyc
a.k.a the Big-Fuckin'-Black-Thing-on-my-Desk

PowerMac 7600
NewerTech MAXpowr G4 processor upgrade - G4/400MHz
Voodoo5 5500 PCI plus motherboard graphics
288MBs RAM
one 1.2 GB Fireball and a 4.3GB full-height Barracuda
Adaptec 39160N Ultra160 SCSI card
one really old Sanyo monitor (13" - 640x480)
one really old Apple monitor (15" 1024x768)
several layers of Krylon Flat Black spray paint on the case,
keyboard frame, and trackball case.

Okay, the Fireball goes to the SCSI bus on the mobo, and
the Barracuda goes to the Adaptec card. The 13" goes into
the motherboard video and the 15" goes into the Voodoo5.
The Voodoo drives the main monitor which shows the
desktop with all my icons, drives, menu bar, blah blah
blah... but whats cool is that the 13" works as an extention
of the desktop, allowing me to put stuff (like palletes in
Photoshop and other controls for video applications, and
occasionally an MP3 player) in a completely seprate
environment, thus then in bi facto leaving me with more
room to work in my main monitor! Good for graphics buffs,
but pretty much useless for common folks.

My other machine, The Tower o' Power, a.k.a. my $1500
Jukebox

Blue-and-White PowerMac G3/300 (overclocked to 350)
ATi Rage128 Pro with DVD decoder
512MBs RAM
one Maxtor 12.8GB and a 6gig Fireball
both drives on a ATA/33 mobo bus
several layers of Krylon Flat Black spray paint on the case
with silver paint highlights on certain parts

Actually, I only paid $100 used for this machine. It came
without a powersupply and the Maxtor drive, but I scrounged
up the parts and put it into service as my personal MP3
jukebox. I run the headphone jack into the input of my
stereo and play all my music through there. Whenever I get
a new CD, before I even consider putting it in the rack, I rip
it to this machine.

I'm a full time pistol-packin' skull-crackin' Windows-dissin' baby-kissin' Mac user.

Boy,
right now I'm suffering from PC envy.

At work I'm using a PII-266 IBM Thinkpad, and at home I renovated a custom PIII-333, with a iomega 32x12x10 CDRW, SB Live and a ATA-100 maxtor 40G w/maxtor ATA-100 card. It has LS-120 drive & 250MB Zip, but is still using a PCI 16MB voodoo2 drive with but the Desktop power supply is starting to go. Both systems run Win98 SE
It's time to spend money.
Question:
Does it pay to custom build, or just go out and buy New system? (I'm planning on scavanging the HD, ZIP & CDRW anyway). I want to edit videos I've shot on my digital 8 video camera.

The last system I bought for work was a Dell, but I'm thinking AMD (DDR) better than P4 (RDram) now. I previously bought a Micron, but they have since sold off the PC division, and I don't know if they are still up to Snuff. I've also heard great things about Xi computers lately.

Any recommendations?
