O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | I currently use ZoneAlarm and there are no problems with gaming. The only thing you might get annoyed with is you cant pre-set ZoneAlarm and tell it what game to allow access - for example, I had to load up Wolfenstein multiplayer for ZoneAlarm to ask me if I want to allow it net access (to which I said yes and clicked the "remember this answer all the time" option). Sometimes this can lock up a game, but its only the first time you run it - once ZoneAlarm detects it, you can go into the settings and allow it and any other games you want to have net access, and it won't lock up ever again. I also tried a hardware router/firewall combo a year ago, but I had a hard time setting up the settings, so that didn't work out. I've been very happy with ZA so far, and it gets raves everywhere I see it reviewed. You can reach me through AIM or email. Don't be shy, drop a line and say Hi!

Psychopath Registered: Aug. 01 | OK...let me preface this with "I have no computer knowledge".... When I try to play a multiplayer game online, my firewall (I think) doesn't allow me. I believe the firewall is in my dsl thingy (does Linksys help here?). Will Zone Alarm get me around that firewall so I can play online???? Thank You, Austin

O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | It sounds like you have a router or gateway hub (if thats what you meant by Linksys). In which case you have a firewall, but you have to configure it to let you play your games online. If I had any knowledge as to how to do this I would, but I really have no clue - I couldn't even get my NetGear router to work right, let alone let me play my games. You could remove the router totally and download/install ZoneAlarm, but some people might say the hardware route is better than software. Like I said, I've never had a problem with ZA, nor have I gotten hacked or received any viruses (other than one or two I might have executed unknowingly). Maybe others here who are more familiar with hardware firewalls could shed some more light on this for you. You can reach me through AIM or email. Don't be shy, drop a line and say Hi!

Psychopath Registered: Aug. 01 | Thanks, Horny. But everything you said is way above me! All I know is that I have dsl and my computer is networked with another one upstairs and there is this thing called linksys. I asked one of the computer guys in the online game I used to play, and he said it had something to do with the firewall I have. At least that was all I got out of the conversation.... Thanks for your help...:) Thank You, Austin
