| Psychopath Registered: Feb. 01 | I'm considering getting a PS2, now that the price has dropped, but I'm wondering whether it's worth it. Maybe I should just upgrade my computer,... quadruple the clockspeed and the ram,... and I really need a new video card (currenty a RIVA 128 chipset... yes, you read right). Thief 2 doesn't do any shadows except COMPLETELY black... yes, this is Theif... who needs shadows.... and Deus Ex runs with an average framerate of 1... yes, thats a frame a second. BUT, maybe I should just go for both. Is there any big advantage to a console though? Sure I couldn't play GTA3 or THPS3 on PC as soon as I could have on PS2, but,... does it matter? And if it does, which console? Way I see it so far(forgive some repetition of what others have been saying): X-Box no great unique games (except for Halo for some of you fags), and with such slow sales so far (and lets not forget this is their first console machine), I don't like the odds on them getting good in the future. But if we're talking about the future, you might as well just wait for it to really be compelling,... not like the price is going anywhere but down, and not like we're having deflation anytime soon. PS2 is great, yadda, yadda, love the company,... already proved themselves,... hardware is a bit behind the others,... anyone forsee it really becoming a problem? Should I just play computer games until the PS3 comes out? Gamecube $149. That's good (less savings over competitors than before though), BUT the game disks are small and expensive and as yet, hard to copy :) Is there a mod-chip for GC? Which brings up another point, I've heard horror stories, and seen hundreds of mis-chipped PS2s on ebay... but how hard is it really? Anyone here done it successfully? Keep in mind I'm going to be within a two minute walk of 500 electrical engineering majors very soon. Opinions, arguements, stories? | Hanger-On Registered: Jan. 02 | I'd say that XBOX is the way to go. Just look at the E3 coverage and see what's coming out this fall/christmas. There are a lot of insane games coming out. Check out Dualty, Dead to Rights, Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Gladiator, etc.... Plus the XBOX will be online this fall with Unreal Championship and Phantasy Star Online 1&2. So it's pretty obvious which one to get, just check out what's going on. Aharon | ||||

| Psychopath Registered: Jan. 02 | Look at the numbers...PS2 owns the market right now, more systems sold=more games....Capcom is already regretting signing that exclusive deal (which is why they found that loophole and are now working on a Resident Evil online for PS2) Devil May Cry 2, Lord of the Rings(it looks pretty sweet), the new James Bond, Final Fantasy 11, just to name a few of the upcoming games... The fight for dominance is over, X-Box and gamecube may now fight for second place....I own all three systems, and in my opinion, there is no compelling reason to get an X-Box, infact, if someone asked me to choose between Gamecube and X-Box, I'd say go Gamecube, simply because they have a better line-up right now, and the future looks pretty good. | Psychopath Registered: Mar. 02 | Gomez, that made no sense: I don't see any reason to get an Xbox, so if you have to choose between a gamecube and an xbox, get an xbox... Anyhow, the consensus I see forming, and I have some first-hand knowledge as well, is that for Sports-based games, X-Box is the way to go. Racing or Action-type games: go with the PS2. If you're 10 years old, go with the GameCube. That sound about right to everyone?  It wasn't lies, it was just...bullshit. | ||||

An exclusive RE game was already planned for Nintendo back in the N64 days, and it's not like RE franchise is a precious commodity anyway. "RE Online" is simply words on a computer screen; no one knows what this game will be, or even if it's determined to come out at all. | ||||

| Psychopath Registered: Jan. 02 | Yes, but this exclusive deal they have with Nintendo means no other system can have a new single-player Resident Evil game for quite some time, and if gamecube's numbers don't start to bulk up soon, then Capcom will lose money on the franchise...But if they had signed that deal with sony(or better yet, signed no exclusive deal at all so they could produce the series for all three systems) the game would be exposed to a much larger audience....And it's not like they signed a deal for just one game, but rather 5 games(guess that's why it was reported pretty much on gamesites and in gamemags everywhere)quote: Of course not, it's not like the original RE was any good, it's not like anyone bought a PSX to play it (oh wait, yes they did) Trust Me! | ||||

| Psychopath Registered: Apr. 01 | I own a PS2 and a 'Cube. While I dont own an XBox, I have played in enough to know its a powerhouse system. My advice for anyone: if you got the loot, get em all. | Psychopath Registered: Feb. 02 | Personally, I'm a Playstation 2 man. Playstation has the largest assortment of games, while Xbox and Gamecube still have a limited selection. Also, I don't know how true it is, but there's a rumor that some of the exclusive Xbox games are going to be released for Playstation next year.
