Anyone using Linux to play games. I am using Winblows right now and haven't made the effort to try some under Linux. I know most of the quake servers run linux. Any thoughts? I am running Red Hat 7.1. Just wanted to see if people notice a speed difference at all.

Well I made a topic about this a few weeks ago. I will just paste it here. The more and more I use Linux the more and more I hate Windows. Something about having an OS without constant crashing, open-sourced, allows me to update for free, and up to 16 virtual desktops. I am currently using Mandrake 7.2 but I might go to 8 soon. This isn't the only way to play games there have been ports but those take a lot longer this seems like the easiest way now until Linux has a sizeable market share.

Many of you Linux people know about Wine which allows you to use programs built for Windows on Linux. Now something similar to DirectX is being developed for Linux that will allow games that were built for Windows to play on Linux. It is kinda like WineX. Only a few games work now but it should work with all games after a while. Visit this Website for the story.

Thanks, I must have missed the other post. I've been running Linux at work for about 7 months. I had it loaded on my home pc, but didn't have a lot of time to play wwith it. I am making time now. It just runs so much faster and there isn't the constant threat of a crash.

Glad to see there are other Linux users on the board. I have been using it for 3 or 4 months now and have been using it a lot ever since I haven't been able to boot into Windows. It is definitely a lot faster because it gives more system resources to the programs instead of windows which is a resource hog. I also like the idea of downloading the kernel and updating it easily and for the low low price of nothing. And since it is Unix-based it hardly ever crashes. I also like the enormous amount of virtual desktops which questions the need for a multiple monitor setup. And another great thing is the command line I add it to my taskbar so I can just type netscape instead of going the programs list, much easier.
