O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | Was just wondering what the board members are using and/or reccommend? I've been using BlackIce for a few months now, and it seems ok, but lately, all I've been hearing about is ZoneAlarm - is it better, the same? I basically have no problems with Ice, but I have been getting hit with a hell of a lot of DNS attacks when I'm playing Elite Force Holomatch online, and I have to do a cold reboot to unfreeze my machine. Once I get back in, I just block the attacker's IP addy, but its still a pain in the ass. Was thinking that ZoneAlarm might deal better with these attacks.

It's the best thing next to a router. Email me at [email protected] or [email protected] IM me at stickysituation2 or pinkorag

O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | Somehow, I knew you were gonna be the first person to reply to this AM! I was gonna go with a router, but right now, software is the more practical (and inexpensive) way to go for me. It's a totally free version, not like a "slimmmed-down, expires after 30 days" version? I checked out their site at work, but I'll wait until I get home to download it and try it out (assuming I feel like messing around with it tonight). O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | It is completely free just as long as you don't get the pro version which you don't need. But the best solution is always the router. It speeds up requests, has the best firewall especially hackers only see the router not your computers. I got mine for 120 online and it is a 4-port, you could get a 1-port for 80 or 90 brand new. Hanger-On Registered: Apr. 01 | The Netgear or the Linksys routers are the way to go. The 1 port Linksys is only $88 on pricewatch.com now. I've been using Norton Internet Security 2001, and it seems to stop everyhting. Nothing gets through or leaves without permission. allyourbasearebelongtous

O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | I used NIS when I had dialup (had a nasty virus, and needed a copy of NAV to get rid of it, but couldn't get the standalone version at the time, so I ended up getting NIS which had NAV bundled with it), and it did nothing but cause my PC to crash whenever I used it. I'm gonna give ZoneAlarm a shot tonight, didn't get a chance to do it last night (plus I gotta find the install disk for BlackIce, in case I need to put it back). Thanks for all the input though - really appreciate it - once things get settled for me, I might just do a router ontop of the software - can never be too safe.
