Psychopath Registered: Sep. 00 | Any Nvidia chipset card will work.. You can go for the 350 buck GeForce 3 or pick up a 150 buck GeForce 2 MX card.. My friend picked up the Kyro card from Hercules and it performs quite well in just about every game. The card can be had for around 110 on the internet.

O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | Don't get a TNT. Those are very old cards. Get a Geforce 2 MX if you want cheap, a Geforce3 for sheer speed if you can afford it or the middle ground a normal Geforce2. O&A Board Regular Registered: Jun. 01 | Masterbator, Detenators are not that bad especially for their money and compatible with just about any game with no problems. Which, now, can be purchased very cheaply if you know where to look. However, you're right that Geforce's are very good and work extremely well and of course are more gooder because they are more newer. ;-) ~Shinste Thine In Honor, FallenAingL "Those blind with rage... are by destiny ensnared." -Ariel of the Circle of Nine

O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | quote: For newer games, you'll need to go with a "newer" card. Since you're working with an HP, I would suggest a MXII board. I have a Herc Prophet MXII board, and I love it - I'll be upgrading to a GF3 soon, since Max Payne is really graphic intensive. Newer games require newer technologies, so I would stay away from TNT's or even TNT2's - the drivers and the cards just cant handle most new games (unless you don't mind playing choppy FPS's). If you look around, you can get an MXII card for <$150 - definitely worth it dude. Classes for Enhancing your Board Experience and Stamina are now in Session! Psychopath Registered: Oct. 00 | A GeForce2 is the way to go. I just put a Hercules Prophet II MX in my G3 and this card is smokin'. If you have AGP on your motherboard, duh, get an AGP card, of which I recomend the GeForce3. This is the king of video cards. Don't put too much money into this machine, though. It's an HP Pavilion for christ sakes. Putting a GF3, even though I reccomend the card itself, into that machine is like putting a Ferarri engine into a VW Golf. Sure, it might fit in the engine compartment (card slot), but the rest of the car (computer) might not be able to handle it / make good use of it. But I agree those cards won't be able to handle new games. But definitely go with Nvidia. I got a GF2 Pro and I'm not complaining at all. Psychopath Registered: Jan. 01 | I have the GeForce II MX and it is great. One thing to note is that I *believe* the HP has an integrated video card which means no AGP slot so you may need to $98 at pricewatch.com I have no patience for stupid people!! Psychopath Registered: Nov. 00 | I got an Geforce 2 Ultra made by Elsa. Hercules makes some great cards. I almost bought the Prophet II pro because it can crank out almpost at many fps as the ultra can and it costs less.

Psychopath Registered: Oct. 00 | If the computer says it has an intergrated direct AGP graphics, does that mean I can get AGP cards?

O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01 | quote: I'm not sure - You will require an AGP port on your Mobo, and you will probably have to disable the onboard graphics via the control panel. A PCI slot would work for a PCI-based card, but if you have the AGP, definitely go that route. Classes for Enhancing your Board Experience and Stamina are now in Session! Psychopath Registered: Jan. 01 | I am not sure. Look in the manual or call HP. Usually it says you have a 1x,2x, or 4x AGP slot. IF that is the case go AGP. There are 2 reasons. 1 is that an AGP card has on board memory, 16 megs 32, 64, whatever. A PCI card does as well. The difference is that they AGP card can take advantage of your conventional memory when the memory on the card is full. A PCI can not, if it fills its memory it slows down until it can handle more info. Also, the AGP bus has a direct link to the processor. The PCI bus controls all of the other PCI cards, network cards, modems, things like that. So, it can get bogged down before going to the processor so that will slow it down as well.
