| Needless to say, this has been a very long and trying week. A week and a day ago, Stacy and I left the arena in Tucson, Arizona stunned by the events we had just witnessed. Since that night, we have tried to make some sense out of what happened in Tucson, but I can honestly tell you, I’m no closer to knowing the real story now as I was that night. I guess somehow I thought someone from the WWF would call me or Stacy and say, "Hey, here’s what really happened and why...." but no such call has come. As a matter of fact, not many calls have come at all. This morning I was on the "Manioc" radio show in Chicago, and somewhere in the conversation he said, "If you ever want to know how many real friends you have at work, just lose your job!" As soon as he said that I thought, "Wow...he’s right!" Who from the WWF has called even just to say, "We’re thinking about you two"? Well I can tell you who: Terri Runnels, Michael Cole, Steve Lombard and Bruno Laura (Harvey Whippleman). One other WWF superstar called that we didn’t see on a daily basis, so it was a pleasant surprise to know he was concerned and that was Shawn Michaels. I must include JR and his wife Jan on that list as I have spoken to them several times. But that’s it. Very short list! It reminds you of the fact that this is a business. And bottom line is that it’s a pretty cutthroat business. Everyone wants to be number one so consequently I guess there aren’t many "real friendships" out there. Mostly just business acquaintances.
But I can tell you what is not a "short list", and that’s the list of e-mails and calls Stacy and I have received from the WWF fans! It has been unbelievable! My little website is nothing compared to the wwf’s, but it’s pretty cool and my webmaster, Alan Whitenton, does a great job with the site and he spends a lot of time working on it. The site usually gets 5 to 6 thousand hits a day, which is pretty good, if you ask me. (Most of those hits are to check out Stacey’s "hot pics") but on the day the news broke of our leaving the wwf we got over 42 thousand hits! Also had over 40 thousand the next day and have been averaging over 20 thousand hits a day since! And I think almost everyone who has logged onto our website has sent us an e-mail of support! The response from the fans has been absolutely amazing. I can never tell you all how much your support means to Stacy and me. We have read all of your e-mails and have tried to respond to as many as we could, but everytime we turn around our e-mail boxes are full with 1000 e-mails again.
Our webmaster also posted the e-mail addresses of some of the "creative staff" that Vince had told me had the problem with Stacy’s attitude. Needless to say, they were bombarded with e-mail to such an extent that they shut down their mail reception. Then Alan posted the address and phone number of the wwf headquarters in Stanford, CT. Today their lawyer asked that we take if off our site and ask you all to please stop calling. So I am asking that you please not telephone the WWF. But if you want to make your feelings known, they can’t complain about a letter sent via regular mail.
And speaking of letting your feelings be known. I have been informed that many fans who attended the live raw in Washington and the Smackdown taping Tuesday night also in Washington, brought signs that supported the Kat and the King. Unfortunately, I am told all the signs were confiscated by the event staff and destroyed! So much for freedom of speech, huh? But apparently they couldn’t stop the thousands of fans from chanting our names a few times during the night!
Back to your e-mails. They have been great! You all have given us your sympathies, your anger, your advice, and even your theories as to why this has all happened, and we really appreciate it! Please keep in touch, as we love hearing from you. Stacy and I have been contacted by numerous radio and television news shows and internet news shows that want to do interviews with us concerning the situation. But with the exception of the Manioc radio show this morning, we have not done any interviews because we still don’t know exactly what to say about what has gone on. We haven’t even done interviews in our hometown of Memphis where the story was all over the TV and radio news and front page on the Memphis newspaper. We are trying to hold off until we know more. I had hoped that Vince himself would take a minute and call me and say, "King, just between you and me, here’s the story and here’s why all this has happened." But he hasn’t. In his defense, he is snowed under (really) with work on the XFL as they try to salvage a major investment. Plus he went from the weekend XFL games right into two days of TV, so maybe I will still here from him sometime this week. I did talk to JR today, and he told me that he asked Vince for an update on the situation as late as last night after the Smackdown taping, and he said Vince told him "I’m still thinking about it, and I’ll address it this week." I also spoke with WWF lawyer, Ed Kaufmanns to see if he was working on our releases and he told me that he hadn’t been informed by Vince to do that yet, but that Vince had also told him it would be addressed this week. So as it stands today we are still pretty much in the dark. Something about that sort of still sounds hopeful that maybe something can be worked out. But then when Stacy called the people who handle the backstage wardrobes and such to check on our stuff (crowns, jackets, stacy’s costumes) they said they had been given instructions to send it all back to us, so that doesn’t sound too encouraging. But we are not trying to read too much into anything. This is a unique business, and anything is possible. I do know we are getting a ton of offers to come and do personal appearances, autograph signings and actually wrestle on a lot of independent wrestling shows. As a matter of fact, one of the offers is for me to appear at a custom car show in Winnipeg, Canada on April 1st. They are offering a lot of money, but as you probably know, April 1st is Wrestlemania! Oh, well, I hope we hear something definite soon. In the meantime, we watched the first hour of raw. That was really a weird feeling seeing Paul he-man sitting there next to good ‘ol JR. But I thought he did a pretty good job. Someone reported that I said he did a "great" job, which is not the case. I think I’m being kind in saying he did pretty good. We also got literally thousands of e-mails from fans saying they weren’t going to watch WWF anymore after what happened to Stacy and me, and I noticed that the raw rating was the lowest ever for a raw since moving to TNN. I’m certainly not claiming responsibility for the drop, but you never know. As I said, we watched the first hour of Nitro then switched over and watched the first hour of RAW. After an hour, we started watching something else. I really never get to see the WCW product because of the times we are on, but after watching it for a while it is evident. THEY NEED HELP! All in all, it was a strange night (sitting at home and watching raw on television instead of being a part of it live). I can honestly say, it’s a lot more fun being there! Well, now you all know as much as Stacy and I know. We are playing the waiting game. As soon as we hear anything, we’ll let you know here on the site. Until then, thanks again for your unbelievable support, and stay in touch!
