O&A Board Regular Registered: Aug. 01 | From TSN's 'Off The Record' Information From RajahWWF.com -------------------------------------------------- - Landsberg introduces Joanie Laurer to the show. - They talk about her leaving the WWF. Joanie says that her contract was up for renewal in November and a year ago the WWF asked her to re-sign. They came to her with a contract that she felt was unacceptable because she felt that she was at the top of her game and had enormous non-WWF opportunities come up. The details of the new contract did not allow her to explore those options. - Joanie says that she never asked for the amount of money that was rumored. She was a top talent in all aspects except for financially and she felt that she deserved what she asked for. - Landsberg asks about "Chyna" wrestling against women and if that contributed to her leaving the WWF. Joanie says that had something to do with it because she felt her character was going backwards. For six years, she wrestled men and learned from them and then all of a sudden, she was supposed to wrestle the women and be the women's champion. - Landsberg suggests that the audience did not want to see men wrestling and losing to women and that some wrestlers probably did not want to lose to her because it would ruin their career. Laurer disagrees and says that most of the men wanted to work with her and that it was basically a step backwards because fans wanted to see her wrestle the men. - Landsberg says that Laurer's job was to get over other women. She responds by saying that it wasn't really possible to put over the other women. Nothing against the women of the WWF, but it was impossible to put her in the ring against someone who did not know how to wrestle. It was two totally different extremes. - Landsberg talks about Vince wanting Chyna to lose to Lita at Judgment Day and get her over and how Laurer refused and basically squashed her. Laurer disagrees and says that she gave Lita a very fair match as well as giving her a good opportunity. She goes on to say that if they asked her to lose, she wouldn't have really cared because wrestling is "fake". - Landsberg then brings up Laurer's five-year relationship with Triple H. He asks if the relationship between Stephanie and Triple H had anything to do with her leaving. Laurer says that although she always tries to keep business and personal matters separate, it did hurt her because she didn't know about it and because Stephanie is the boss' daughter. She says she tried to deal with it as professionally as possible and not let her affect her career but soon thereafter, she was told that the WWF would not be needing her character on TV. So ultimately, she feels that it had something to do with her leaving because it would have been awkward having Stephanie and Hunter in her face every day. - Landsberg asks her how she feels about Triple H and Stephanie. Laurer says that she wishes they would have taken a different approach in the whole situation. Neither Stephanie nor Triple H talked to her about it and after she found out, neither spoke to her. Joanie then says that her and Triple H were two different people. She wanted to do different things while Hunter slept, ate and lived wrestling ever since he was a little boy and naturally they drifted apart. - Landsberg says that professionally it doesn't seem fair. Triple H has gone to become a huge star, while Chyna the character is out of the WWF. Laurer says that professionally she feels no regrets and holds no ill feelings. But personally as a woman, she was hurt by it. - Landsberg talks about relationships in the business. Joanie says that if it was anyone but Stephanie, she would have probably handled it a lot better. - Landsberg asks what Laurer feels about Stephanie, personally and professionally. Joanie is taken aback and says that she feels Steph hasn't found her true identity yet, is a little bit immature and probably feels a lot of pressure being in the position she is. But it isn't her position to judge, so she doesn't blame Stephanie for what happened, she blames Paul (Triple H). - Landsberg compares her situation to Rena "Sable" Mero who also left the WWF and posed in Playboy. Laurer says that it is natural for people to compare the two, but back when "Sable" was emerging the business was so different and the opportunities weren't as great back then. She basically refutes the comparison, insinuating that she is in a better position to experience success. - Landsberg then talks about WCW's demise and how that could have factored in her negotiations with WWF because there was no competition and leverage for her. Laurer says that when there is a monolopy there just isn't a lot of negotiations going on. But ultimately she would have been a fool not to take the opportunities that were coming to her and she has worked hard and wants to experience those opportunities. - Joanie then says that so far it hasn't been an easy transition - she's worked very hard outside of wrestling because she can't use the name Chyna and has to build her own persona. - Joanie then has some advice for the current WWF divas: work hard, be conscious of your surroundings and realize that one day the bubble will burst. As for Vince McMahon, professionally you can trust him because he does what is best for the business, but she never once thought that Vince would always take care of her. - Landsberg says that although her heart has been broken, he admires her thinking before answering the questions he asks. Laurer says that she loves the people she worked with and she wishes they all flourish. - They talk about her upcoming play. Laurer says she is very excited about this because she loves theater and entertainment. Her friend asked her to do the play and at first she said no. She read the script and loved it. They show the promotional poster for it. She plugs her site for those looking for more information. - They talk about her upcoming Playboy pictorial, which comes out in January 2002. She says she is looking forward to it because this time it's Joanie and not Chyna and she's very proud of that. - Landsberg asks her to compare Hugh Heffner and Vince McMahon. Laurer says that although they are two very different businesses, she appreciates the opportunity that both men gave her. - Landsberg thanks for her the interview. Overall a very good interview, much better than the last time Laurer was on Off the Record. --------------------------------------------------

O&A Board Regular Registered: Aug. 01 | The only bad part of her leaving is that she took the WWF women's title with her. That division was finally developing & she had to ruin it. Hopefully she doesn't pose nude in PlayBoy again. God she is one nasty som' bitch.
