| I was at the Raw show and he was still using the Alliance instrumental. I watched SmackDown this evening and he has new music. I couldn't hear it very well, but it was a song, not just an instrumental piece. I was wondering if someone with a broader music base might have recognized it, or is it a WWF original?
And As long as I'm the topic of my favorite wrestler...who gave him the shiner he's been sporting this week? Considering how many people he's busted open since joining the WWF, I'm sure no one backstage was crying for him, but it must have been a pretty brutal shot. My best guess would be Test at a house show, but I base that soley on what a pussy Test was when recieving the Van-Damintor on Monday...I figured he knew he had a stiff shot coming and laid down 5 seconds before RVD made contact with the chair. It brought back warm memories of Kevin Nash taking a Goldberg spear. |

| Usually most of the time the wWF's themes are produced within the compnay by a guy named Jim Johnston. He has done most of the WWF's themes for the last 10 or more years. Unless they mention the band or you recognize the band it is probably made by that guy.

| i didn't recognize it, but the way they didn't say who it was makes it seem like it was home made by the wwf...seemed pretty good, but didn't hear it very well

| Well WALK was written by Pantera, but then again they use Bizkit and Kid Rock tunes. But only to promote their albums, Pantera doesn't need to promote a song like Walk anymore. Plus why change Taz to Tazz? They wanna split small things like that plus they don't wanna seem like rip offs, just my opinion though.
I was actually surprised how the sandman didn't get death threats from Lars for using Metallica's "enter sandman"?

| As I understood it, Gonzo - the reason they changed "Rhino" to "Rhyno", "Taz" to "Tazz", and others is so they can copyright the name and no one else can use it without being sued. Notice that the Road Dogg is billed as "Road Dog" and Konnan was billed as "Konan" (because WCW had his name copyrighted) at the recent WWA Pay Per View. Obviously, trying to get a copyright on common words (like Rhino) wouldn't work, so they need the unique spelling.

Also, both guys jumped to the WWF while ECW still existed. Well, I guess they do still exist, though only on paper.... but anyway, if ECW did have some sort of hold on these names, WWF wouldn't be able to use them. Change one letter, and life is good.
Hell, WCW would blatantly steal songs, and only change one note. Ripoffs like:
-DDP's Smells Like Teen Spirit
-Saturn's Beautiful People
-Buzzkill's (Brad Armstrong) short-lived ripoff of WWF Road Dogg
-I know the Mr. Perfect theme was ripped too...
-Vince Russo used a butchered Iron Man
-Jarrett had a rip of Cowboy
Shit, I know there had to be more, but I think I intentionally blocked it from my memory.

All these and more provided by that magical, musical composing machine, Jimmy Hart. As a side note, the butchered version of "Iron Man" is now being used by the Road Warriors in the XWF.

| Just to answer one of the questions that popped up in this thread earlier...the reason ECW never got in trouble for Sandman using the Metallica song has a good deal to do with the reason the Sandman doesn't have a job in the WWF right now: Heyman had to pay a huge lump of cash to get the rights to remake it then Metallica finally gave them the go. They had Motorhead re-do "Enter Sandman" (even though he still came to the ring to the Metallica version) and they released it on CD, then the Sandman jumped to WCW and became 'Hak' and has been on Heyman's shitlist since. They must have known in January of 2001 that they were doing their last PPV, because the Sandman was the champ after the main event, but in ECW style, Rhino came out, demanded a match immediately, and pinned the Sandman to become the new champ right before they went off the air...couldn't let ECW die with the Sandman as their last champ.
The remaking of songs like that applies to RVD as well, only he actually used the remade version of ‘Walk’ by Kilgore to come to the ring. The reason that he couldn’t use it in the WWF, sadly, is because Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley did not, in actuality, buy ECW. The WWF just paid enough money to gain the rights to use the name ECW, but would have had to pay off Heyman’s nearly $6 million in debt to own the rights to everything. Hopefully they will do so in the future, when it becomes prudent for them to do so, in order to put out the most complete line of wrestlers’ career videos and DVDs ever. You could follow guys like Austin, Van Dam, Jericho, Benoit, etc….from ECW to WCW (now that they own their vault), and into the WWF. That would at least be a good thing to come out of ECW folding. |
