Personally, I loved Roddy Piper and "Piper's Pit",
but I guess Hulk Hogan put wrestling on the map, although he sucked as a wrestler.
Other greats:
Bruno Sammartino
Pedro Morales

Bret Hart & HBK in their primes, it wasn't just the greatest feud because of the script, but because they were probably the two best personalities and workers you could ever put out there.

I agree with Froy about HBK, never could get into Bret Hart. I think Randy Savage in his prime was good. Rick Flair. Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat.

I don't think Hogan ever brought anything to the table as a wrestler, but he definitely had a major presence that helped bring them to the mainstream.

I think when all is said and done, taking mic skills, in ring talent (especially before his injury), and drawing power all into account, I cant pick anyone else but good ol' Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Hulk Hogan in his prime revolutionized Pro Wrestling. He was weak in the ring and only got worse at the years gone by. But his embarrasing days were in WCW.

Greatest Performer would have to be Shawn Michaels.

Bret Hart has always been one of my favorites; but, Hulk Hogan made wrestling what it is today...they'll be talking about him forever...

Bruno Sanmartino (sp?) was also one of the greats...

How could you leave out the ultimate jobber of all time....The Brooklyn Brawler!

But seriously, like was said, Hulk Hogan almost single handedly redifined wrestling, so I guess I'll go w/ him.

Hey, I noticed that nobody said the Rock, so I guess I should stray from the crowd and say...Billy Gunn. The best pure athlete in the WWF. The man was able to bounce back from being the Honky Tonk Man's sidekick and become IC champ, tag team champ, hardcore champ, and one-half of the greatest tag team in federation history. He also happens to hold the records for most tag titles as a single (8 times) and team (NAO, 5 times).

i would have to say yeah hogan did a lot for wrestling. But vince built the wwf off of one man and that was Andre the Giant who gave more to the company than any other pain. He battled through immense pain to pass the torch properly to hogan.

Shawn Michaels did the same thing, he didn't want the big pop he didnt come back the next night and say he was screwed. He lost to austin and passed the torch, he was visibly hurt before and was hurt even further in the austin match but he continued and then left. Like a true athlete and man.

Hogan is given too much credit he didnt do it alone he was the most popular of them all but let's not forget people like roddy piper, ricky steamboat, jake roberts, andre the giant, junkyard dog, tito santana, superfly snuka and others who helped hogan make wrestling what it was.

Bret Hart was probably the best wrestler out of Andre and HBK but bret complained too much. Yeah he was screwed but still so, HHH was screwed over worse than Bret was but HHH took it and look where he is now, not cause he bitched but cause he worked his ass off.

Hogan pssed the torch too many times and then took it back even more times.

Shocker...i hope you were kidding about Billy Gunn...he is a great athlete but is a horrible wrestler with no charisma...i cringe everytime he throws one of his girlie looking punches(and that is an insult to girls)

Favorite jobber has to be Iron Mike Sharpe--he had that stupid cast type thing on his arm.

Best wrestlers might have been Ricky Steamboat and Randy Savage in their prime--Wrestlemania 3 was just an incredible match.

The WWF has had many many great wrestlers, just going down the line, Hogan, Andre the Giant, Bruno Sammartino, Tatanka, Sid, Bret Hart, HBK, Stone Cold, and even Kurt Angle. All of them have given their own in different ways. So I dont think there is a way to differentiate on overall greatness.

Wow bc, Iron Mike Sharpe, I loved him with the forearm shots. I totally forgot about him

But really, my two old favs have to be Ricky Steamboat, and I think either Savage or Piper, even though the old school stuff was not as entertaining, it was fun.

My two new favs have to be HHH, he is amazing and or course the hardys, because while their bodies can take it, they are such a site to watch. How a human body can take that kind of punishment is beyond me. Great to watch people crippling themselves in front of our eyes, right???

The sad thing is that I'm old enough to remember every wrestler that has been mentioned in this thread and more...
But the best wrestler for my money would have to be HHH. The guy is the first to every event and the last to leave. He teaches the young talent what he knows, and pushes his body to the limit. He is the ULTIMATE heel and is just fantastic at what he does.
