O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | Smackdown!: [Airdate - 5/31] Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho Interview -The two Canadians come out to a huge pop which ended up being literally a five minute standing ovation. When they finally started talking, they talked about Triple H being hurt and Jericho commented that he wanted to defend the belts against Austin and Vince McMahon instead. Benoit spoke of Edmonton in particular and Wayne Gretzky to get even more of a pop before he was interrupted by Vince McMahon. McMahon stated if the tag team belts would be up for grabs, him and Austin would end up winning. Instead he books Jericho in a match against Kurt Angle later on in the night. Benoit asks for a rematch against Austin, but Vince says that Austin has the night off. Austin then storms out and says he doesn't want the night off and accepts Benoit's challenge. Backstage, Edge talks about Canada and says he left the country due to the bad tax rate, the bad looking women and something else. He says that later on tonight, he will face Kane and take the Intercontinental title back to his new home in Tampa, Florida. Kane vs. Edge -Edge comes out first, followed by Kane. Edge worked Kane's arm throughout the match and even nailed the spear but Kane managed to skake it off. The finish saw Kane score the pinfall after a powerbomb. Quick match, nothing significant. Backstage, the Dudley Boyz are talking about Bubba Ray Dudley's upcoming singles match against Hardcore Holly. Both D-Von and Bubba tell Spike to stay out of their business because ever since he joined them, things haven't been working out. Spike looks hurt. Bubba Ray Dudley vs. Hardcore Holly -Bubba Ray is accompanied by D-Von and Hardcore Holly is with his cousin Crash. See-saw match which sees both wrestlers hit their trademark moves (Hardcore's dropkick and Bubba's Bubba-bomb). Crash is brought into the ring by Bubba and eventually rolls to the outside where D-Von is. D-Von clocks him once, tries doing it again but runs into the ringpost. Bubba is trying to suplex Hardcore into the ring from the outside but Crash grabs Bubba's leg, holds it down and lets Hardcore get the pinfall. In the back, William Regal and Tajiri approach Vince McMahon and tell him about a limo that is circling around the arena. Vince says that even in a city like Edmonton, limos are common. Regal then says that the license plate on the vehicle says WCW and Vince gets angry and tells him to inform the security guards about this. He says they can't let what happened last night occur again. Tajiri tries to grab a vegetable off of Vince's try, but Vince slaps his hand and prevents him from doing so. Backstage, Spike Dudley is being interviewed by Jonathan Coachman. Spike says that this whole thing between him, the Dudley Boyz and Molly Holly is a big misunderstanding and that sooner or later, he'll sit down with D-Von and Bubba and talk it over. Coach asks how Molly is doing and Spike says that she's at home recovering and will be back soon because she's a tough girl. He then takes off his glasses and says that he has something to say to Molly but hasn't had enough courage to do so in the past. Looking straight into the camera, he utters the words "Molly, I really like you. I really really like you." The crowd ooohs. A recap is shown of the mystery man filming Sara, which was shown originally on RAW. Backstage, Lilian Garcia is interviewing Kurt Angle. Kurt basically says that he dares Shane McMahon to interfere in his match tonight against Chris Jericho. Chris Jericho vs. Kurt Angle -Before the match, three security guards came down to ringside. Towards the back of the arena (opposite of the Titan Tron), fans had spotted Shane McMahon and a huge cheer had erupted. A few minutes later, Shane popped into the arena and then sprinted out. Heh. Anyway, back and forth match again with Jericho trying for the Lionsault but Kurt moved and Jericho landed on his leg and sold an injury for the rest of the match. Later on, Kurt Angle had the ankle-lock submission on Jericho but Shane McMahon came running in through the crowd but was restrained by the security guard. The distraction allowed Spike Dudley to sneak in from behind and hit the Dudley-Dog. Jericho then got up and pinned the fallen Angle. Backstage, Angle storms in Regal's office and demands a match against Shane McMahon at King of the Ring. Regal says he will see what he can do about it, which basically means it'll be happening. Tajiri starts bowing at Angle and speaking in his native tongue. Kurt doesn't take too kindly to it and ends up beating up Tajiri. Rhyno vs. Raven -One of the best matches of the night in my opinion, especially for a hardcore match. Raven came down to the ring with his usual cart-full of tricks including a couple garbage cans. At one point, Rhyno missed a gore and ended up in the trash can. Raven was unable to capitalize however and this allowed Rhyno to set up a table in one of the corners. The finish saw Rhyno basically half-gore (more like tackle) Raven into the table for the victory. In the back, Austin and Debra are conversing when Vince McMahon comes in and asks Austin to reconsider his match against Benoit. Austin sort of snaps and says that McMahon doesn't believe that he can beat Benoit. Vince disagrees and Austin turns his attention to Debra, saying the same thing even though Debra was silent throughout the segment. Vince wishes Austin good luck and the two part ways. A recap of the injury and surgery involving Triple H is shown. A short interview is shown of Stephanie McMahon. Stephanie takes exception to what Austin said about Hunter being selfish. She says that what Triple H did (finish the match) was nothing short of heroic. Backstage, the Hardy Boyz and Lita are getting ready for their match. Jeff and Matt are discussing strategy before Jeff decides to go into the corner to stretch. Eddie Guerrero walks in just as Lita and Matt are kissing and tells them to get a room. Matt responds by saying that this is their room and that he should have knocked. Eddie says that he should concenrating on the match like he did last week when he defeated Albert. Matt asks Eddie if he thinks he's better than him for beating Albert and Eddie says no. Eddie then asks whether they are a team and Matt says yes they are. Backstage, Chris Benoit is getting his ribs taped up. X-Factor vs. Hardy Boyz & Eddie Guerrero -Hardys come out to one of the biggest pops of the night while X-Factor comes out to a lot of heat. X-Pac immediately gets an "X-Pac sucks" chant despite not even stepping in the ring. Typical match with the Hardys doing some of their high flying moves and Albert displaying his power. At one point, Albert throws Eddie Guerrero violently to the outside and Lita runs over to attend to Eddie who looks injured. This distracts Matt and allows Albert to nail the Baldo-bomb for the win. A new clip is shown of Undertaker and Sara driving their quads at their home in Texas. The man taping the video says that the two are enjoying themselves very much and he is enjoying himself just as much by taping them. Backstage, Austin is looking at his belt. I can't really remember what he was doing but my notes say Austin backstage so yeah...whatever. In between segments, a lady in the stands held up an Edmonton Sucks sign. A man came running down, pushed her down and ripped up the sign. Her boyfriend then started challenging the man but security prevented anything from happening. Steve Austin vs. Chris Benoit -Before the match gets underway, Vince McMahon's music hits and he informs the crowd that he will be the special guest enforcer in this match. The match itself was very long and well worked. It shifted outside and back in several times. Both men tried a plethora of submission moves including the Sharpshooter, the Crippler Crossface and the Walls of Jericho too. Austin also tries unsucessfully to hit his Stunner and Benoit misses with the Flying Headbutt, actually hitting the title belt that Austin had brought into the ring. At one point in the match, Benoit hit TEN German Suplexes in a row on Austin! The crowd was chanting holy shit of course. Also during this match, the lady mentioned earlier got a "Slut" chant because the fans at this point hated her. There was also a fight in the front row camera side, however, I'm not sure if the cameras caught it. One man was escorted out. The finish saw Benoit nail the Crippler Crossface in the center of the ring before Vince McMahon grabbed a chair from the outside and came running into the ring. Before he could make effective use of it though, Benoit caught him with a kick in the lower abdomen area and he then proceeded to wallop Vince with several chairshots to the back and one to the head. With Benoit distracted, Austin snuck up from behind and rolled up Benoit for the 1-2-3. Afterwards: [Will Not be Shown on TV] Benoit stayed in the ring and called Austin back. Austin came back once and changed his mind before Benoit called him a pussy. Austin then dropped his belt and came storming towards the ring but against stopped short and this time left for good. After this, Benoit had some mic time saying he started here in Alberta and that he's been to many, many arenas but we "kick ass". The crowd was very hot in person but I'm not sure how strong it will come across on TV. | ||||
