SpinART Digs into Pixies Archive This July

After releasing new albums from Pere Ubu, Echo and the Bunnymen, and reunited Buzzcocks alums Pete Shelley and Howard Devoto, SpinART is poised to release a truly exciting document from another beloved cult act of the 80s. Unreleased tracks from the Pixies' "Purple Tape," a 1987 demo recorded with Gary Smith at venerable Fort Apache, are finally seeing official release via the New York-based indie on July 9th.

The so-called "Purple Tape" contained the recordings that originally landed the Pixies their record deal with 4AD -- label head Ivo Watts-Russell was so taken with the cassette-only demo that he released eight tracks from the session as the now-classic Come On Pilgrim EP later that year. The remaining nine tracks, which include the original recording of "Here Comes Your Man," the previously unreleased song "Rock a My Soul," a studio version of "In Heaven," and two songs ("Build High" and "Subbacultcha") that wouldn't see light of day until the Trompe le Monde sessions, comprise SpinART's collection. Shrouded in purple-toned artwork, the release is simply titled Pixies. Tracklist:
