In keeping with its tradition, Lynyrd Skynyrd will kick off its spring-summer touring season with a two-night stand Vevay, Ind., on May 3-4. Ted Nugent and Deep Purple join the band for several dates during the jaunt.

According to the band's official website, a new Lynyrd Skynyrd record is tentatively scheduled to be released in late 2001 or early 2002.

Lynyrd Skynyrd has received a boost from two major motion pictures. The Johnny Depp flick "Blow" features the song "That Smell," from the band's first record "Pronounced Leh-Nerd Skin-Nerd" (MCA). The oft-used soundtrack song "Sweet Home Alabama," from 1974's "Second Helping" (MCA), can be heard in the hit movie "Joe Dirt" with David Spade and Kid Rock.

A new Nugent album titled "Full Bluntal Nugity" will be released in June, according to Nugent's official website.

Parents have a big misconception about rock. Like they say, "I don't want you to be involved with it because you'll become a drug addict or an alcoholic." Well, guess what? If I wasn't in rock n' roll I'd be a real mess...
