The people in secret chat gave me this idea...

Why are women never as prevalent as men in rock n roll? Why must they primarily go to pop music? The ones who are amazing never get the respect that's due to them, either. What turns people off to women rockers? (and why are they predominently bassists in heavy rock bands?)
with the exceptions of course of greats like Ani Difranco and Bonnie Raitt, Grace Slick (although Starship blows) and Janis

There's some great musicians out there now, like:
  • Sean Yseult, but whatever happened to her?
  • Stefanie Eulinberg on drums for Kid Rock/Twisted Brown Trucker Band
  • There's an all-female kick ass doom metal band called Bottom
  • Elyse Steinman of Raging Slab plays a mean slide guitar
  • Rayna from Coal Chamber, another bassist lol
  • Samantha Maloney is another amazing drummer, filled in for Tommy Lee in the Crue, was in Hole, does a lot of experimental desert stuff (new Desert Sessions vol. 7&8)

I can't think of anymore right now....let me know your thoughts...

how about Stevie Nicks?
And even though her music is pop, I still have to say Madonna. What other woman singer has been around as long as she has and remained as big a star as she is and always recreates herself, and has been such an inspiration women.

In my opinion, probably the best girl rock band is Sleater Kinney from Seattle. They were even featured in Time as the best alt. band this year.

I reccomend the albums "Dig Me Out" and "All hands on the Bad One."

And for those who don't(and care...):

TV PEOPLE ARE SO SCARED OF FOLKSINGERS: ANI DIFRANCO'S RETURN TO LATE SHOW IS CANCELLED

Ani's previously announced July 19, 2001 performance on Late Show with David Letterman has been cancelled following conflicts between the artist's stated intentions and the program's expectations of her.

The appearance was to have been her second on the show. In March, Ani was asked for a list of three songs she might perform. The song she ultimately chose from the list, "Subdivision," has been a staple of her recent concerts and is one of the most-discussed tracks on her latest album, Revelling/Reckoning. The lyrics of the song examine the prevalence of racism in urban America and its devastating impact on the landscape of cities nationwide. The opening line states the matter bluntly yet eloquently: "White people are so scared of black people."

A week before the taping, however, representatives of the program insisted that Ani instead perform "Heartbreak Even" because its portrait of a stalled relationship was considered more "upbeat." As viewers of the Late Show are well aware and as the producers have admitted, songs featured on the program in the past have reflected a wide range of tempos, but evidently "Subdivision" was not to be one of them. Requests to reschedule the appearance for a time when its tempo might better fit the show were denied, leaving only one conclusion: that the beat of the music stirred up less trouble than the words of the song.

As a matter of principle and a privilege of her hard-earned independence, Ani does not perform songs on demand, whether the demand comes from the producer of a television program, an audience member at one of her concerts, or even her own management. Faced with a choice between playing something "upbeat" yet apolitical or not playing at all, Ani chose the latter. Both Ani and Righteous Babe regret any disappointment this decision causes viewers and fans.

Sorry, I should have been more specific...I meant out there right now...chicks who are kick-ass musicians, known for playing instruments in rock bands

And I didn't say there weren't women, just not as many in men, especially in the arena of hard rock and heavy metal.

Sean Yseult is favorite rock chick of all-time. White Zombie is my fourth favorite band ever and it was good to see a hotty like that play as good as she looked. Any project she moves to now I'll buy it just to put money in her pockets an to hear her playing again.

You notice how a lot of women in rock are bassists? Sean Yseult, D'Arcy, Kim Deal, Lisa Umbarger, that chick from Hole who's name escapes me right now, etc. etc. The only female guitarist I can think of off the top of my head right now is Lita Ford.

Joan Jett still has projects on occasion. I've heard that maybe Lita Ford has a project pending as well.

It looks just like a TeleFunken U-47, you'll love it.
