| TORONTO -- New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter will be out of the lineup until at least Monday with a strained left hamstring.
"It's sore," Yankees manager Joe Torre said Wednesday. "He won't play until he's right."
Jeter said he hurt the hamstring while going from second base to third in Monday's game against Toronto. He thought it was a cramp, but then realized it was strained when he ran out a groundball in the first inning of Tuesday night's game.
"I don't know how long it's going to take," Torre said. "He doesn't know how long it's going to take, but I'm sure we'll get a little better idea in a few days."
Torre was going to rest Jeter against the Blue Jays on Wednesday night anyway. Thursday is an off day for the Yankees, and they play host to the Red Sox for four games starting Friday night.
New York entered Wednesday night's game with a 9½-game lead over Boston in the AL East.
