O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | OZZIE’S AN ISLANDER! Three-time All-Star, Two-Time Cup Winner Osgood Snatched in Waiver Draft (Sept. 28, 2001) -- The Islanders dramatically upgraded their goaltending and improved their playoff hopes when they acquired three-time NHL All-Star Chris Osgood from the Detroit Red Wings in today’s Waiver Draft. “When you can acquire a player of Chris’ caliber and accomplishments without giving up a player on your roster, you do it,†said Islanders GM Mike Milbury. “He’s got 221 wins and only 110 losses in the regular season, he backstopped his team to a Stanley Cup four years ago and he’s only 28. I’d say we are pretty fortunate to bring Chris Osgood to Long Island.†Osgood owns two Stanley Cup rings from his eight seasons with the Red Wings, carrying the load in the 1998 playoffs with a brilliant run of 16 wins in 22 games and a 2.12 GAA. He is also just 28-years old, meaning his arrival is an extension of the Islanders’ dream off-season that included the acquisition of 27-year old stars Alexei Yashin and Michael Peca. Osgood, Yashin and Peca are all front-line performers with enough years in the league to lend leadership to a developing team, yet are young enough to have their best years still ahead. Osgood has two seasons remaining on his current contract. The 5-11, 180-pound Osgood is a two-time William Jennings Trophy winner (shared with Mike Vernon, 1996 and 1997) and a three-time All-Star selection (1996-1998). In Red Wings history, he is second behind only the legendary Terry Sawchuk in wins (221) and shutouts (30). Osgood has posted 30 or more wins in four separate seasons. He was selected by Detroit in the third round (54th overall) in the 1991 Entry Draft and played his first game in Toronto on October 15, 1993. His first win was against Lost Angeles on October 23, 1993. Described as a stand-up goaltender, Osgood is known for his quick glove hand. He is an aggressive goalie who challenges shooters and plays the angles well. It isn’t often that a player of Osgood’s caliber becomes available via a waiver draft – in fact, we’re not too sure a three-time All-Star in his prime has ever been available. But Detroit’s surplus of talent in goal (with their summertime trade for Dominik Hasek) led to the Islanders’ fortunate gain.

O&A Board Regular Registered: Mar. 01 | Other than the Rangers, the whole Atlantic Division looks competitive (and if a miracle happens, the Rangers might be good, and we'll have a good ol' Patrick Division fight for the title) Leave me alone, just shut up and leave me the fuck ALONE!

O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | If richter stays healthy, if Lindros can keep from getting knocked unconscious and if Dvorak continues his development as an up and coming allstar, that division will be very competitive once again after a few years off. Rangers will still get a better record than the Islanders.

O&A Board Regular Registered: Feb. 01 | i knew it wouldnt be long until he got snatched up by a team. Great pick by the Isles. theyve been needing a decent goaltender the past couple years. I actually think this year they could put up a fight against the rest of the leaugue.
