| Last night, Lenny Harris hit his 150th career pinch-hit in a loss to the Expos. He tied Manny Mota's record of 150 career pinch hits, and needs only 1 more in the next 2 games to break the mark.
Personally, this is 1 record that im glad is being broken, nothing against Mota, but Lenny Harris is truly one of the game's really good guys, and deserves some time in the spotlight for this. How tough is it to be sitting for 7 or 8 innings and then come up and produce when your team needs it right away.

| This is one of the more worthless records in baseball.
And I say this, coming from someone who thinks McGwire's '98 season is 1/2 worthless...

| Hopefully he will break the record in the next 2 days, so that the Mets dont even Entertain the thought of bringing this guy back and wasting a roster space for next year.

| Ive never said that he was a good ballplayer, if he was, he'd be playing everyday.
Its a record nonetheless, and i thought it needed to be posted thats all.

| I couldn't agree more. I love Lenny, he truly deserves to get the record, he's a model player on the field, off the field, and in the clubhouse. It would be an honor to see him get the record in a Mets uniform.

| Considering most hitters agree that pinch hitting is one of the toughest jobs, I'd say it's probably the most under-rated record you'll find.

| No doubt, pinch hitting is a very important and difficult part of baseball. But when a record depends more on the number of times the manager calls your number than actual skill, I consider it to be near worthless.

I agree. Its like a kicker getting a record for most all-time extra points.

| Think of it having to go 1 for 1 every at-bat. That's what it essentially boils down to. That's more pressure than you put on most players.

| I disagree. While a pinch-hitter is under alot of pressure during that 1 at bat, over the course of a season, he does not have nearly the pressure on him as an everyday player. They are ones who have to perform day-in day-out on an extremely consistent basis. If they don't, they get de-moted to a pinch hitter role. When has Lenny Harris or John Vander Wal or Matt Franco or any other glorified bench player ever come up with a solid statistical season. I don't think they are capable of it. Can they get a hit when called upon? Sure. That is why they are in the big leagues. But doing it at the plate and on the field for 162 games takes a lot more skill and puts players under more pressure than full-time pinch hitting roles.
