But, we all know that the most important college football game of the week takes place right here in Manhattan on Saturday! That's right: First-place Penn takes on perennial Ivy doormat Columbia up at Baker Field. A win should move the Quakers back into the I-AA Top 25!! | O&A Board Regular Registered: Sep. 00 | Wednesday, October 17 Maryland band involved with Tech fans after game -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ESPN.com news services Maryland officials are expected to file a formal complaint after band members were involved in an incident following the Terrapins' overtime win at Georgia Tech last week. Band members sasy that Georgia Tech fans broke into the band's postgame formation and threw glass bottles, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The band says a fight broke out and one member of the Maryland band was injured. A trumpet was allegedly stolen and another instrument was damaged, according to the newspaper. Kathleen Worthington, Maryland's associate athletics director for internal operations, told the Journal-Constitution that an incident had occurred, but denied the fight. "Basically, some people pushed folks down and a couple of instruments were walked on and stepped on and broken," she said. "It was just some fans who were obviously upset with the loss." Tech officials were notified on Monday. They are awaiting a formal complaint. No report had been filed with the Tech campus police by Tuesday afternoon, although Maryland athletics department officials said band director Richmond Sparks was in the process of doing that. "There is certainly evidence of something happening," said George Cathcart, Maryland's director of communications. "We're asking the Georgia Tech police department to find out and let us know." Tech police chief Jack Vickery said his department received a radio call saying that someone had stolen an instrument from a member of the band. Police officers were unable to get to the scene in time, Vickery said. | ||||
