One of the alltime Ranger greats. I miss him and he was just unbelievable for the city of New York with all of his charity work. He deserves a big tribute tonight.

The Rangers will continue their quest for a new identity tonight in the Garden. But before they do, they'll take a few moments to honor one of the biggest parts of their past.

Adam Graves returns to the Garden tonight for the first time since a trade to San Jose in the summer ended his fabulous Rangers career. He will receive a pregame video tribute from the organization. But there is no way the Rangers can repay him for what he gave to them or the city of New York in his 10 years here.

Graves will return in the teal, silver and black of the Sharks, almost as unsightly as Mark Messier's return in a Vancouver Canucks sweater on Nov.25, 1997.

"Anytime you're as fortunate as I was to spend terrific 10 years with not only a class organization but the community and a place that I and my family absolutely loved, those are memories time will never take away," Graves said. "But life is full of changes and this is a new chapter that we're enjoying.

"But did I know what date this game was on the calendar? Absolutely."

Graves' tireless charity work for local children and his reputation as the consummate teammate was, most of the time, the focus, but he starred for the Rangers during one of the most successful periods in team history.

While the team was winning its first two divisional titles in 50 years, its only two Presidents Trophies, and its only Stanley Cup in the past 61 years, Graves was playing lefthand man to captain Messier.

He scored 280 goals as a Ranger, third-most in franchise history behind only Rod Gilbert and Jean Ratelle. And his 52 goals in 1993-94 stand as the franchise single-season record.

"I think he's going to be remembered as one of the great Rangers of all time," Messier said. "He did everything a person could do for an organization, everything a player can do for an organization.

"He was a huge part, obviously, of winning the Cup in '94, but more importantly the way he handled himself as a person on the ice and the way he represented it off the ice, everything that makes fans proud to be cheering for the home team and home town."

For Messier, of course, it's personal.

"You always knew that he was backing you in every situation, no matter what happened, so for me it's going to be really emotional. I have a lot of deep feelings for Gravy as a person, and obviously for what he meant to me as a player for my years in New York."

I will be there tonight, and if my Graves Jersey wasnt about 5 sizes too small on me now Id definetly be wearing it. Instead I will have to wear the jersey of another ex Ranger who returns to the Garden Tonight. Mr. Todd Harvey.

Hopefully the next time there is a Tribute to Adam Graves is in a couple of years when #9 is up in the rafters at Madison Square Garden.

As much as I love Graves, he I am not sure if he is one of the alltime Ranger Greats; He is definitely one of the alltime great Ranger individuals - someone who was great to fans, and charities, and he had one of the great alltime ranger seasons. The last few years he wasn't doing it on the ice for a variety of reasons (back, personal problems, etc.) although he continued to give his time and effort to everyone. I'm glad the organization is giving him the recognition, and I'd hope after he retires they offer him some opportunity in the Ranger family.

It will be a very emotional night indeed. Ranger fans will never forget what he contributed to the team over the years. He is a great guy and is missed. But, the Rangers can and have moved on, its time for the new younger guys to contribute with the other veterans. We couldnt keep all of the veterans, so Graves was the odd man out.

personally i think he is one of the Ranger greats, people don't recognize a guy for all the little things he does, like take a hit for the team, block a shot, dig for pucks hard, skate his ass off, leadership, graves did all of those for the rangers, he is one of the most dedicated rangers, i hope the NY crowd gives him a good welcome home

Adam Graves was one of my all time rangers. Every game that guy gave his all. He would play with black eyes, cuts, broken body parts and you wouldn't even know. If I'm not mistaken, doesn't Graves hold the most goals in a season, breaking hatfields record? Anyway, I think Graves should have his number retired, not only for on ice contributions but for off ice too....Adam Graves a class act

I watched the pre-game on MSG, and then the video tribute, which was quite emotional.(not much of the game, and I am thankful for that).

The reason I said I wasn't sure about all-time ranger is that they have such a long and storied history, and he wouldn't be the first name to come to mind; however, I also didn't realize that he is 3rd on the all-time ranger goal scoring list. He definitely was willing to do all of the dirty work, and when Messier calls you a leader, that means something. I wish him well in SJ, and in anything else he may do. As I said earlier, I hope after his playing career he can continue in some capacity with the Rangers. We are all better off for having him here.

Being there at the Garden was great for Adam who is my all time Favorite Ranger. It was a lenghty ovation for him all night long even when the Sharks came out for warmups.

There is not enough great words you can say about Adam Graves.

On the flip side, there arent ANY great words you can say about the Rangers after another pittiful performance.

Its the same old Rangers. No Defense, No Shooting, No finishing, equals No Wins and most importantly No Playoffs.

And it wouldnt kill them to actually show up for the first 10 minutes of a game for a change.
