A lot has been made from the Yankees going to the World Series that it is helping the spirit of New York City. I wanted to get people's opinions especially Met's fand and members from other cities whether they think this is true.

As a Yankee fan, I definitely think it is true. It gives you something happy to think about instead of what happened Sept 11th and the ongoing war. I feel it is a much needed and wanted distraction in New York.

Many firemen and many police officers are Yankee fans and this brings smiles to their faces. I would have liked if it was a Subway Series, so the half of new York that hates the Yankees could feel good about this World Series.

Giulani is talking of having a possible parade in lower manhattan. Is this right or wrong? Should this also include the police , firemen and emt workers. Do they have their own in the future?

I am going to say yes. It gives the general populous some else to talk about. It helps takes my mind off the events of 9/11.

If I'm not mistaken there was some sort of pep rally this afternoon for the Yankees. So if They have that, why wouldn't they have parade down the regular rout? In order to beat the Terrorist, we have to not let them change our lifestyle. So why let them change our parade rout?

Are the Yanks helping NYC?
Yes. Even though I'm a met fan I almost was moved to tears when I saw the celebration.

But still the WS to me will suck. I'd say I'm upset at the Yanks for winning every god-damn year due to an ability to buy any player whenever they please.

BUT, Arizona does the same thing, only they are an expansion team. Jerry Colangelo wanted a winner when he got Schilling and Johnson. I wouldn't be suprised if either team won the WS. They both bought the chance to get there.

I'll probally watch a little bit of it. But now I'm looking foward to the Knicks and Rangers.

FUCK BIN LADEN!!!! We'll show you a "holy-shit war!"

I think the Yankees winning is helping New York in two ways, it is helping many New Yorkers including myself to turn their focus away from tradgedy momentarily and it is also giving the media something else to focus on about New York. Baseball in October is always good for New York, but with our struggling economy and heavy hearts, this can only help.

BTW..Lent....the Yankees might have a high payroll, but so do many other teams and they didn't even make it to the post season. I think the way these guys play together and the way Torre runs a team has a lot more to do with them winning again and again because remember the Yanks were always up there with salary but the winning didn't really start again until we got Torre...it takes more than money to win World Series...hopefully we will show that to Arizona.

GO YANKEES!

of course dis is helping the city, when a team wins a championship it unites the city in celebration, i think the firemen and police men should participate in the parade, they saved so many lives and helped so many people, it would be good to appreciate what they have done

Yes. But its complicated.

While on the surface, any New York victory would be a moral boost for the city. As a New Yorker and a Yankee fan, I totally agree. However, as a baseball fan, its harder to say that.

Not many of the players on the Yankees are from New York, or this country for that matter. Their #4 picture floated over here on an inertube.

However, with Joe Torre, a New Yorker, as the manager, that changes that. Most teams don't even have a "Home town boy" as the Yankees do in Torre. This was emphasized back when his brother came down with cancer and their whole history was brought the surface.

So even with just one "New Yorka" on the team, it is still enough to make both a New Yorker and a baseball fan a little misty eyed

Don't start about how the Yankees buy their Titles. Please. Im a Met fan and I admit that arguement is just from bitter and jealous fans.

Where did the Yankees go out and buy Jeter? or Williams? Rivera? Posada? Pettite? Soriano? Mendoza? Spencer?

With that said, Go D-Backs.

I got this from my friend and thought it was slightly amusing but I didn't want to start another new thread so I figured this would be a good place to post it:

10 RULES FOR BEING A YANKEE FAN

1. It's important to point out past post-season success as often as possible. However, if anyone points out anything in the past that doesn't reflect positively on the Yankees, then argue that it happened in the past and doesn't matter now. For example, it is okay to point out that the Yankees beat the Mariners in the 2000 ALCS. However, if anyone points out that the Mariners beat the Yankees in the 1995 ALDs, then argue that it happened in the past and doesn't matter.

2. Nothing in the regular season matters, unless it's favorable to the Yankees. For example, Roger Clemens was 16-1 this year, and has dominated. However, if anyone points out that the Mariners have beaten Clemens twice this year, respond by saying, "Regular Season doesn't mean crap". Regular Season wins and losses are especially irrelevant, unless you are the 1998 Yankees.

3. Statistics are for losers. Whenever someone posts a statistic that you find confusing, quickly point out that the Yankees have won 4 out of the last 5 World Series.

4. If anyone accuses the Yankees of "buying" their championships, argue that Jeter, B Williams, Pettitte, Soriano, Rivera, and Posada are all home-grown talent. Then, hope that nobody notices that this represents only 6 out of 25 players, and hope they don't bring up Clemens, Mussina, Hitchcock, Witasik, Wohlers, Stanton, Martinez, Sojo, Knoblauch, O'Neill, Brosius, Justice, Lilly and more. Also hope they don't mention the fact that Gerald Williams was recently acquired but never plays, much like Jose Canseco last year.

5. Whenever you argue with a Red Sox fan, always bring up 1918. This will infuriate them and while they type a response, you can point out that the Yankees have won 4 out of the last 5 championships. See Rule #1

6. Statistics and records are never as important as name recognition. Statistics should always be dismissed unless they are favorable to the Yankees. For example, Clemens was 16-1. That's a good statistic. Mussina was 12-10, but that doesn't matter because . Well-known names are always better than any statistic. If anyone argues with that, see Rule #2.

7. Defend Derek Jeter and Roger Clemens at all costs. Resort to name calling and threats of violence if necessary.

8. All other fans of all other teams are bandwagon fans. Nobody has a more loyal, more dedicated following than the Yankees. If a team is hot, or is playing well, call that team's fans bandwagoners. Then point out how many championships the Yankees have won. See Rule #1.

9. The Yankees are the Defending World Champions until baseball adopts a policy forbidding them to play in the post-season. Such a policy will never exist, because George Steinbrenner vehemently opposes anything that doesn't directly contribute to the success of the Yankees, so therefore, the Yankees will forever be the Defending World Champions. If another teams wins the championship, then it was because of . Refer to Rule #1.

10. The following traits should be avoided at all times: logic, humility, reason, and class. You are the World Champions. You should act like it and point it out at all times. See Rule #1.

Regardless, I still fucking hate the Yankees! Everyone who had, does, or ever will play for the Yankees. I hate them all. I saw Jeter, Rivera, and Posada at Whiskey Park in Boston this summer and I wish I gave them all Scurvy while they were in Boston.

NYC is the best city in the world, no debate. But I FUCKING HATE THE YANKEES!!! especially Paul O'Neill, the biggest crybaby in professional sports.
