Where do you go every day, or every week, for sports COMMENTARY on the web? I'm looking to expand my horizons beyond ESPN.com, where I read all the baseball writers (esp. Gammons, Neyer, Stark) and some football.

My favorite right now is Gregg Easterbrook, who writes Tuesday Morning Quarterback on Slate. It's a collection of items from the weekend's games, including notable stats, best and worst plays, obscure college scores, football haiku, immutable laws of football, and other regular features, plus sci-fi and hot-megababe discussion.

The best part is the alternative nicknames he uses for some teams. Some examples:
Arizona (CAUTION: MAY CONTAIN FOOTBALL-LIKE SUBSTANCE) Cardinals
Chesapeake Watershed Region Indigenous Persons
Cleveland Browns (Release 2.0)
Tennessee Flaming Thumbtacks
Dallas Girls ('Boys, get it?)
and my personal favorites, Jersey/A and Jersey/B, which have been suspended for this season out of respect.

The link above is this week's column... Check it out if you're an intelligent football fan and let me know what you think...

hey look, I'm one of the fags who hides their edit, even if it's just to uncheck the Notify box! :p

I think Mike Lupica is the greatest sports writer ever. Granted his stuff is in print, but one can find it on nydailynews.com

The best sportswriter I've come accross is Bill "The Sports Guy" Simmons of ESPN Page 2.

The guy is absolutely hilarious. He should have his own show, a book, be elected to political office, and be a star. Yet for some reason, he's relegated to Page 2 obscurity.

He writes 3 columns a week, and they are filled with obscure movie, TV, and sports references. The guy's like rain main.

His last article was a great one about game 7. He should be in your regular rotation.
