NFL BREAKDOWN WEEK 9- NOVEMBER 11, 2001

Kansas City Chiefs (2-6) at New York Jets (5-3)
The Jets are one week removed from a very impressive road win in New Orleans and are stuck in a tweener game here against Kansas City. Next week the Jets head to Miami in what should be a critical AFC East showdown. Will the Jets be looking past the Chiefs this Sunday? They better not be. The Chiefs had a very impressive road victory last week as they stopped the Chargers in San Diego. The Chiefs are a team that should not be taken lightly and Priest Holmes is capable of making it a long day for the Jets defense. But the Jets have enough to get past this Chiefs team and I feel they will do so, but it is not going to be easy.
SCORE: Jets 19 Chiefs 13

New York Giants (4-4) at Arizona Cardinals (2-5)
The Giants were very fortunate to walk away with a victory last week against Dallas, but did have a very good 2nd Half which might have spelled the end to their recent struggles. Arizona didnt put up much of a fight last week against the Eagles, and now they face the other Top echelon team in the NFC East. Should be much of the same result, the Giants are due to bust out and look like the team they are capable of being. It might not be a complete blowout but I would be surprised if the outcome is in doubt late in this football game.
SCORE: Giants 23 Cardinals 13

Miami Dolphins (5-2) at Indianapolis Colts (4-3)
This is a key AFC East showdown which will do one of two things. It will either distinguish Miami as a legit force in not only the AFC East but the entire conference in General, or it will get the Colts right back into the thick of things in the race and tie The Dolphins at 5-3. Miami's defense should be good enough to keep them in this football game, but the Colts' offense is too powerful to be completely stopped. The turnover battle should be key in deciding this game. If Miami can win that and add some points off Indy mistakes then they have a chance. But with the Home Field, I've got to go with the Colts to win what should be a very entertaining football game.
SCORE: Colts 24 Dolphins 20

Buffalo Bills (1-6) at New England Patriots (4-4)
The Bills have had a dreadful season but have been very competitve as of late. While the Patriots have surprised alot of people with their .500 start despite the absence of Drew Bledsoe. This should be a competitve matchup here and I think Buffalo can play with New England. The Patriots are playing over their heads and are not as good as their record indicates, even with it only being at .500. This one is not going to be a cakewalk for the Patriots, the Bills will keep it close and will be right there when the game is on the line close. However, I am taking the Patriots to win a very close game at Foxboro and to get to 5-4, while giving the Bills another tough disheartening loss.
SCORE: Patriots 20 Bills 17

Carolina Panthers (1-7) at St. Louis Rams (6-1)
Watch out because this thing could get ugly. With the possible exception of the Raiders, no team seems to be in the league of the Rams, despite the Rams shocking loss to the Saints 2 weeks ago in which they blew a 24-6 Halftime lead. The Rams had a bye last week and are itching to get back out there to get the taste out of their mouth. Meanwhile, the Panthers may very well be the worst team in Football and their offense is pittiful. Even the defense of the Rams should be able to completely shut them down. This one could get very ugly, and the Rams will show no sign of mercy.
SCORE: Rams 42 Panthers 14

Dallas Cowboys (2-5) at Atlanta Falcons (3-4)
Ryan Leif at Quarterback is an improvement for the Cowboys, but it still doesnt change the fact that they are one of the worst teams in the NFL. Im not very high on the Falcons either and they were very dissapointing last week at home against the Patriots. The Cowboys have been more competitive than expected this year, but they are due for a stinker, and this might be that week.
SCORE: Falcons 30 Cowboys 16

Tampa Bay Bucs (3-4) at Detroit Lions (0-7)
We all know the Lions are not a very good football team. But they aren't this bad. They just cant seem to finish off anybody and they could easily have 2 or 3 wins by now. The Bucs are a hard team to predict. They should have won last week in Green Bay, but a late Packers comeback did them in once again in Lambeau Field. This one could go either way, and I hate to say it, but another nailbiting loss will probably be coming the way of the Lions. The Bucs desperately need this win, and sure the Lions want to get off the snide, but the Bucs need this win if they are going to entertain any playoff hopes.
SCORE: Bucs 24 Lions 23

Green Bay Packers (5-2) at Chicago Bears (6-1)
This is the Big NFC Central Showdown at Soldier Field. The Bears are living in a Fantasty World the past 2 weeks. 2 unbelievable comeback wins at Home in Overtime, with defensive Touchdowns to close it out. Reality should kick in this Sunday. Sure the Bears are an improved team, 6-1 doesnt lie, and the playoffs are a distinct possibility. But they arent as good as the record states, they could easily be 4-3 right now, and the Packers are a better football team, and the miracles should stop here with a Packers win to force a tie for the lead in the NFC Central.
SCORE: Packers 23 Bears 10

Pittsburgh Steelers (5-2) at Cleveland Browns (4-3)
This should be a key test for both teams. Its a test for the Steelers because they came down to Earth a bit last week after a very difficult home loss to the Ravens. The Browns experienced the ultimate of gut wrenching losses when they blew a 14 point lead with 35 seconds to play and lost to Chicago in Overtime. Alot of people are counting out the Browns and thinking that that play might have ended the Browns season. I think not. Butch Davis is a tremendous coach and he will have his team forgetting last week and looking on to this very important divisional game. Browns win it at home to get back into things in the AFC.
SCORE: Browns 20 Steelers 10

Cincinnati Bengals (4-3) at Jacksonville Jaguars (2-5)
Now if you want to talk about teams whose seasons are over, then the Jacksonville Jaguars are a team that comes to mind. The Jags started out 2-0, but have lost 5 consecutive games including 2 straight games at Baltimore and Tennessee in which they lost games they should have won that could have turned around their season. Well that didnt happen, and the Jags are down, and the Bengals are going to put them out. The Bengals will stay alive in the AFC Central picture to get to 5-3.
SCORE: Bengals 23 Jaguars 14

San Diego Chargers (5-3) at Denver Broncos (4-4)
The Broncos have been a dissapointment the first half of the season at .500, while the Chargers have been a very good 5-3, but have played a very weak schedule and are coming off a very bad home loss to Kansas City. The Broncos lost to the Powerful Raiders on Monday Night last week and return home in a pivotal AFC West Matchup. The Chargers should stay in this football game, but the Broncos are better and are playing in Denver where its a very difficult to play, new stadium or not. Broncos win.
SCORE: Broncos 34 Chargers 21

Minnesota Vikings (3-4) at Philadelphia Eagles (4-3)
This should be a very competitve game at the Vet this Sunday. The Vikings are desperate for a victory to stay in the Central race, while the Eagles look to maintain their slight NFC East divisional lead. The Eagles have been very poor at home, with a 1-3 record, and even though they are 4-3, they have not been very impressive. I think the Vikings will stick around in this game and have a chance to pull it out, but I see the Eagles winning a nailbiter that could come down to the last few ticks.
SCORE: Eagles 17 Vikings 13

New Orleans Saints (4-3) at San Francisco 49ers (5-2)
This an excellent NFC West Showdown which will be big test for the Niners to see if they are a legit playoff contender and contender to try and knock down the Rams in the NFC West. The Saints played a bad football game last Sunday Night against the Jets and will be ready for this showdown in which they need to prevent themselves from falling to .500. I think the Saints will be play a solid football game, are the better team and will win this game in San Francisco outright and they might even do it convincingly.
SCORE: Saints 30 49ers 23

Oakland Raiders (6-1) at Seattle Seahawks (3-4)
The Raiders are a very good football team and are certainly the team to beat in the AFC, and quite possibly the entire league. The Seahawks are mysterious teams. Some weeks they look like they can compete with anybody, while others they look like they can be beaten by anybody. Thats not going to work this week when Oakland comes to town. Oakland has spanked Seattle once this year already, it might not be as bad this time in Seattle, but the Raiders should have little trouble in this one. And maybe after this loss, Mike Holmgren will finally realize that Trent Dilfer may not be Joe Montana or John Elway, but he wins Football games and those numbers dont lie, and thats really all that matters.
SCORE: Raiders 26 Seahawks 14

Baltimore Ravens (5-3) at Tennessee Titans (3-4)
What was originally billed to be one of the Games of the year on Monday Night, has turned into just a decent game between these two divisional foes. The Ravens are 5-3 but have not been as dominant as some might have thought, while the Titans have been very dissapointing and have had to fight and claw just to get to that 3-4 mark they are at now. The Ravens are not afraid of playing in Tennessee or anywhere for that matter, and the Titans may not be that good of a football team anymore. Im picking the Ravens to give the Titans a crushing blow that might just put a huge dent in the Titans hopes of getting back into the playoff race.
SCORE: Ravens 21 Titans 10

Jets are in trouble if Priest Holmes administers a holy whooping on the Jets D-line.

Vinny is back to his old style of throwing it right in the arms of the opponents :(

edit--

(2-7) Chiefs 7, (6-3) Jets 27; FINAL

I was all happy and giddy thinking the Jets would win this game and find themselves in first place. Well, they won, but Miami has just won at Indianapolis :(. But it stands now, and as it should be, next weeks game at Miami will be for first place in the AFC East.

It might be a painful end to the season just as it was last year, but at least it's not going to be "a long season" for the Jets, as some had predicted.

P.S. keep picking against us ;)

Are the Jets finally "getting it", or are the Chiefs that bad?

Last 2 games Jets finally seem to understand what Edwards & staff want them to do. Back to Back solid wins, and Vinnie still hasn't had a big time passing game. Martin has been quietly racking up the yards, and Lamont Jordan seems like he can step in when needed. O-line playing fantastic, defense rebounding after horrible beginning.

Next week will say alot as to whether this team is for real.

If the Jets can win this game next week in Miami they have an EXCELLENT shot at winning the Division Title, only their 2nd Ever AFC East Division Title amazingly enough.

If they win that game, then all they will have to do is beat The Patriots, Bengals, and Bills at Home to win 10 games. Throw in the fact that they will have a tie breaker over Miami, a 10-6 record will likely give the Jets the division Title. And if they can pull out just 1 win in Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, or Oakland, then they will win 11 and will definetly win the Division.

So if the Jets win next week they will likely win the Division.

Now that I got everybody excited, I dont see them winning next week, but I give them a shot. They have the Dolphins number.

You make it sound like the Bengals and Patriots are chop liver. The Patriots have improved greatly since the Jets last played them, granted so have the Jets, but the Pats are no walk over. They are not going to beat the Dolphins, in fact i wouldnt be surprised if the Jets dont score a TD against Miami. The Jets will have a tough go at it the rest of the year, Oakland wont take them lightly after what Seattle did tonight, and Pittsburgh is better than the Jets hands down. They can beat the Colts in Indy, but that is no given either. 10 wins would be considered lucky to get right now considering what is ahead for them.

Plus, 10 wins probably wont even get them into the playoffs, unless they beat Miami and end up tying them for first. I dont think they can beat the Patriots right now, and the Bengals can run up and down on them all game. I have little to no respect for the Jets, but i will gain some if they can defeat the Fins in Miami.

Next week will be a tough, gritty, nailbiting game, but as long as Cluster F picks against them, the Jets should have no trouble winning ;)

I didnt say the Bengals and Patriots were chop liver. But they arent the Rams and Raiders either.

Should the Jets beat those teams at Home? They sure better.
