| NFL BREAKDOWN- WEEK 15- DECEMBER 22,23, 2001
Miami Dolphins (9-4) at New England Patriots (9-5)
Excellent AFC East Showdown to begin Week 15 in this Saturday Afternoon special. The Patriots continue to roll as they have been the NFL's biggest surprise this year. They are sitting pretty as far as a Playoff position is concerned, and a win against Miami will give them an excellent shot at winning the AFC East. The Dolphins were on a roll until they got totally stopped and shut down by San Francisco last week. I expect a good competitive football game, but Im going to take Miami to win a close one. Miami has had New England's number as of late and have a knack for winning Big Time divisional games that are not against the Jets. The Patriots are due for a loss and I think they get a big one here, but this game should definetly be decided in the final minutes, maybe even seconds.
SCORE: Dolphins 21 Patriots 16
Philadelphia Eagles (9-4) at San Francisco 49ers (10-3)
Another excellent Saturday Afternoon game between two teams that are certainly playoff bound in the NFC. Its a contrast of styles as Philadelphia brings their dominant defense into Candlestick against the explosive offense of the Niners. Which side of the ball is going to be contained? Thats the key question. Can the Niners conquer the Eagles Defense, or Can the Eagles stop the 49ers offense. The Eagles are 6-0 on the road, and Candlestick Park isnt exactly the most intimidating place to play in the league. I think the Eagles are a better all around Football team, I dont think the intangibles will go against them, and I expect the Eagles to go to San Fran and win and take home an NFC East Title.
SCORE: Eagles 20 49ers 13
Tennessee Titans (6-7) at Oakland Raiders (10-3)
Well this is it for the Titans. The Titans started out the season miserable and then got hot and back into things. They went on another slide, and then have rebounded again. But its most likely too late for the Titans. One more loss officially ends their season, and with a game this week in Oakland, that loss is happening here. This is a Prime Time Night Game in front of the entire Nation, and expect the Raiders to come out ready to play. They havent looked good in their previous home games, and didnt look very good last week either in winning 13-6 in San Diego. Oakland plays a good game, connects on all clyinders, and sends Tennessee packing it in for the 2001 season.
SCORE: Raiders 26 Titans 9
Seattle Seahawks (7-6) at New York Giants (6-7)
Both of these teams are on the outside looking in, and need wins badly to stay alive in the Playoff picture. The loser of this game is most likely finished. In the Giants case they are finished, in Seattle's case they will be just about done. Im still waiting for that complete 60 minute effort from the Giants. The Giants snapped their losing streak last week against Arizona, but were far from impressive in doing so. Seattle is 7-6, but away from home have not done much this season. They are making the cross country trip to the Meadowlands, and I think the Giants are up for the game, and are due for that 60 minute effort Ive been waiting for. Giants win to keep their Post Season hopes alive, but even with the win, those hopes are very slim.
SCORE: Giants 30 Seahawks 19
New York Jets (8-5) at Indianapolis Colts (5-8)
Yes the Jets have not looked very stellar the past few weeks, but they are an 8-5 team. lets not forget that. Meanwhile the Colts are 5-8, and just because they come off one victory against a mediocre Falcons team, everybody is jumping on the Colts bandwagon? They are officialy done, they dont have much to play for except for the spoilers role. I think the Jets have an excellent shot to go into Indy and get a win that they sorely need. The Jets are a better football team than Indy, and they need this game in the worst way, while the Colts are playing for pride. If Paul Hackett lets Vinny and the Jets open up their offense, they will score on Indy's defense, and as long as the Defense plays half way decent, it will be enough for a Jets win and almost assure them of a Playoff spot.
SCORE: Jets 29 Colts 21
New Orleans Saints (7-6) at Tampa Bay Bucs (7-6)
The playoffs come early for us this season. Because this is essentially a placement game for the last Playoff spot in the NFC. The Winner of this game is sitting pretty for that Final Playoff spot, because they will own a 1 game lead with 2 to play, and will have the tiebreaker advantage do to winning this game. The Bucs are a very inconsistent team and with the exception of their win in St. Louis a few weeks back, have not been very impressive lately. The Saints have yet to play to their full potential. They are coming off a loss to the Rams where they were thoroughly outplayed. But I think the Saints get things to together and win a close competitive football game, and will be in the drivers seat to get that Final Playoff spot in the NFC.
SCORE: Saints 23 Bucs 17
St. Louis Rams (11-2) at Carolina Panthers (1-12)
Can the Rams just show up and cake walk to victory? Yeah probably. The Panthers may be up for the game to try and pull off the monumental upset, but after the Rams get a lead in this game, the Panthers will realize they are in way over their heads and then this one gets ugly.
SCORE: Rams 38 Panthers 17
San Diego Chargers (5-9) at Kansas City Chiefs (4-9)
What has happened to the Chargers? Things were looking good for them early on. They were looking to go from 1-15, to the playoffs. Once upon a time they were 5-2. Now they are 5-9 after 7 straight losses. The Chiefs arent a great team by any stretch of the imagination. They have been playing better lately and got a big win over Denver last week to get them some satisfaction. The Chiefs come down from that high this week, and the Chargers are due to get back on the winning track, they do that this week.
SCORE: Chargers 17 Chiefs 13
Buffalo Bills (2-11) at Atlanta Falcons (6-7)
The Bills are arguably the worst team in Football, and the Falcons are technically still alive in the Playoff race. So how come the spread is only 4 points in this game? Beats me. Speaking of beats. Alot of teams beat the Buffalo Bills, and the Atlanta Falcons should be no exception to that. Im not very high on the Falcons, but Im high on any team playing the Bills, especially at home. Falcons arent making the Playoffs, but they still have a shot after they get this win over Buffalo.
SCORE: Falcons 30 Bills 20
Chicago Bears (10-3) at Washington Redskins (6-7)
The Redskins have exhausted so much energy just to get back into this race after an 0-5 start, that they have had it. After last week's loss to the Eagles their miracle comeback try has just about ended. And the Bears should put the final nail into the coffin this week. The Bears are 10-3 and have the game advantage on Green Bay, but they know that they have to stay ahead of Green Bay to win the Division, because the Packers won both meetings with the Bears and have the tiebreaker. I cant see the Redskins being able to score on the Bears defense. They will force turnover and by themselves should win this football game.
SCORE: Bears 17 Redskins 13
Cincinnati Bengals (4-9) at Baltimore Ravens (8-5)
The Bengals didnt look that bad against the Jets last week, until Jon Kitna came into the game. The Ravens had a tough loss last week at home when they saw the Pittsburgh Steelers win the AFC Central Division Title on their field. The Ravens will come out ready to turn that around. They are favored by 11 points, and I dont think they have the offensive firepower to cover that. They should certainly win this Football game, but I cant see the Ravens putting that many points on the board.
SCORE: Ravens 22 Bengals 14
Cleveland Browns (6-7) at Green Bay Packers (9-4)
The Browns are reeling and their dream of a playoff spot has slipped away. But the I dont expect the Browns just to lie down for the Packers either. The Packers should win this football game but I think the Browns hang in there with them. Butch Davis has a very good football team there, and one that will be a force to be wreckoned with in years to come.
SCORE: Packers 24 Browns 19
Detroit Lions (1-12) at Pittsburgh Steelers (11-2)
Their is going to be a lack of hunger in Pittsburgh on Sunday Game. Both teams may be in for some let downs come Sunday. The Steelers clinched the AFC Central Division Title by going into Baltimore and beating the Super Bowl Champions on Sunday Night Football, now they come home to play an interconference game against a 1-12 team. A Letdown is certainly in store there. The Lions finally got off the snide and got their victory after coming close so many times, but now have that win and will play on the road against one of the best teams in Football. A let down is in store there. So dont expect a barn burner here, but expect a Pittsburgh victory for sure, but the Lions should stay competitive as they have just about all year.
SCORE: Steelers 16 Lions 7
Dallas Cowboys (4-9) at Arizona Cardinals (5-8)
This is a toss up game in the desert between two teams playing for pride. Whenever the Cowboys play at Sun Devil Stadium, its almost like a home game because they have just as many fans in the building. The Cardinals were on a bit of a roll but got dominated by Washington at home, and although they almost pulled off the win last week against the Giants, they werent too great in that one either. The Cowboys were playing good too, until they got pummeled by Seattle last week. You can go either way in this one, but Ill take Dallas to get the road victory here.
SCORE: Cowboys 23 Cardinals 14
Jacksonville Jaguars (5-8) at Minnesota Vikings (5-8)
The Jaguars were terrible on the road this year, but are coming off 2 straight road wins in Cincinnati and Cleveland. The Vikings have yet to win a game on the road this year, but are 5-2 at home. Their road difficulties dont come into play this week because they are at home. The Jags won in Cincinnati and won in Cleveland, but this is Minnesota. The Vikes are a different team at home, and they get the job done there in this game between two teams not heading to post season.
SCORE: Vikings 27 Jaguars 21

| The Pats are the biggest surprise because they came into the season looking to be a bad football team. Then Bledsoe goes down and you expect them to win no more than 4 games this year. They play in one of the toughest divisions in Football and have a shot at winning the Division Title and winning 11 games this year.
The Bears have been a nice surprise too, but they have a great Defense. Nobody expected them to be this good, but they were supposed to be improved.
I dont buy the Steelers as most improved. They have always been a good team, and last year they were a 9-7 team. They werent expected to be 11-2 right now, but Bill Cowher always puts out good teams in Pittsburgh no matter what the talent level is.

| Stamp out tickets for the playoffs, the Jets are almost a lock to be headed there. What a game by both the Jets and Giants. The Giants really helped us beating the Seahawks (7th seed), and we really appreciate it, really, we do ;). It's also nice to not have Manning not burn us late. Awesome.
Nice game by Vinny and great finish. I was thinking they scored too fast there at the end, but it didn't come into play when they turned it over on downs.
If we don't win out and miraculously get a bye, hopefully we will see Miami in the first round.

| A Fantastic win for the Jets which might have put away the December curse. Now all we need is a win over the 2-12 Bills, and we are in the playoffs. Which is a very big deal when your a Jet Fan. Im 22 Years Old, and Ive only seen the Jets in the playoffs 3 Times. 1986,1991, and 1998. And in 1991 they were 8-8, so not really a playoff caliber team.
And if they get that Buffalo win and then Beat Oakland they get The #2 seed and a Bye in the First Round.
The Jets win was big for me against the Spread, it lifted my record.
Against the Spread, I went 2-12-1. One of my worst weeks ever.
Only wins were the Jets and Bears. 7-6 though picking winners.

| Holy shit, I really have to stop taking sports so seriously, would my life really be that bad with the Jets losing? Sad thing is the answer to that question is most likely. Oh one thing FB, I don't buy into the Pats being all that great, I see them as the Giants of last year, just look at their schedule. I think that the Jets and Pats are equal right now and I really want the Jets to play them in the playoffs, I really think the Jets would win. I'm not saying the Jets are all that great, I'm just saying that I hate every other team in the AFC East so much that I can't say anything positive for any of them.

| I dont think the Patriots are all that great either, but they have won some big games. They did beat the Jets on the road, and they won this game against Miami. And I thought this team would win 4 or 5 games, and here they are 10-5, staring at 11-5, although I think Carolina will give them a game in their last game. You have to give Bellichick and company credit for having this team where they are, but I wouldnt expect them to do any damage come playoff time.

| It's so hard to believe that to get a first round bye, even after the short-lived but harmful early december swoon, all we have to do is win out. That's it. Buffalo will be an "easy win" (last minute defensive stop), and Oakland isn't really doing too well of late and is vulnerable at this stage in the season; And if we beat them both, it will be another deep playoff run.
But as far as the Jets go, the good news ends at some point. Unfortunately if the Jets do go deep they have to face Pittsburgh most likely. The Steelers bitch-slapped us in a game they should've won by a larger margin earlier this year. Many people don't care about records but Vinny is 2-11 against PIT and the Jets are 1-14 against overall them but have never one on the road.
It's too early to think that far ahead. The Jets still have to win more games and Pittsburgh still has to win in the divisional round. On top of that, there are other teams that would be interested in reaching the Super Bowl, so for now, I am just glad that the magic number for the Jets is 1 with the Seahawks. And the Jets usually don't make the playoffs, so we should be thankful.
And The Patriots are doing well, but we can make their road much harder by making them play an extra game in the playoffs.
Go VinnieeYY!!1
