When it was said that the Yankees bought the 2001 pennant, Cashman is quick to point out that by the time the 2001 payrolls were finally determined (including buyouts) the Yankees were second in the American League behind Boston, with the Dodgers in the major-league lead. Psychopath Registered: Oct. 00 | My question is if he becomes the 5th starter, what does El Duque do? If they trade him, who might they possibly get? They don't have many weak spots. Psychopath Registered: Oct. 00 | Jafa.....I don't care where they trade El Duque, as long as they start the year a prototypical lead-off hitter. Whether it's from the trading of El Duque or the free agent signing of Kenny Lofton (I hope). But if they start the year with Jeter as the full time lead-off and Nick Johnson as full time DH, they go from World Series favorite to "wait and see" because they lineup is totally different. But if trading El Duque doesn't bring a lead-off hitter, maybe they'll try this totally new thing other teams have been trying: trading for YOUNG PITCHERS...it's the latest rave, but not something the Yanks have been big on in a few years...I hope they get back to it.

Psychopath Registered: Aug. 01 | Well, I'm happy for you Yankee fans that you got him back. It would have been nice if the Phillies even bothered to try to sign him, but as you already know, they are too damn cheap to do that, which is why we only have one ring and have been around for over a hundred damn years. Be glad that you guys have an owner who will be kind enough to spend some damn money, and not be prepared to lose a good player when you finally have one (Scott Rolen) when you are too damn cheap to pay him even close to what he is worth. That is why you guys have all those nice World Series rings and we are stuck watching teams that can't compare (even though last years overachievement was nice). Good luck against the Mets in the world series.

Psychopath Registered: Oct. 00 | I couldn't be happier with the signing of Wells, he's one of my favorite Yanks of all time, but if you keep Hernandez, who goes: 1. Clemens - not a chance 2. Mussina - not a chance 3. Pettitte - quietly, one of the best records in all of the major leagues in the couple years he's been a pro. 4. Hitchcock - just gave a contract to, so highly unlikely 5. Wells - another fresh signing. ...and you can't even count on them keeping him around in case of injury. Even though his arbitration salary will be small considering his awful and inconsistant last two seasons, I still think he'll go because they'll have two kids in Columbus to choose from to use for injury fill-in. And maybe even three, but I can't think of the other kid's name right now, I just know they are as high on him as they were on Lilly & Keisler in the last few years, if not moreso. And he's not exactly a bullpen guy, and they have Mendoza for long relief anyway. I wouldn't be upset if El Duque stays, I just don't see where he could possibly fit in.
