NEW YORK -- New York Rangers right wing Radek Dvorak is out for the season after spraining his right knee midway through the second period of New York's game against Boston on Wednesday night.
Dvorak collided knee-to-knee with Boston's Gord Murphy at 7:20 of the period. His leg appeared to buckle before he fell to the ice.
Dvorak, 25, was diagnosed with a Grade 3 sprain of his right medial collateral ligament. Rangers spokesman John Rosasco said Dvorak had likely torn his ACL as well, pending tests Thursday.
Dvorak has 17 goals and 20 assists this season. The Rangers had high hopes that Tuesday's acquisition of forward Martin Rucinsky would boost the play of Dvorak and linemate Petr Nedved heading into the playoff stretch. Dvorak, Nedved and Rucinsky are all Czech Republic natives and friends.
Dvorak had played in 293 consecutive NHL games before missing three games in late November with a left knee sprain.
Last season, his first full one with the Rangers, Dvorak had 31 goals and 36 assists, both career highs.
