The New York Mets on Monday placed pitcher Rick White on the 15-day disabled list with an inflamed right elbow.

White suffered the injury during the weekend series with the Pittsburgh Pirates at the new PNC Park to close out the exhibition season. The move was retroactive to March 31.

The 32-year-old White was acquired in a trade with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays last season and went 2-3 with one save and a 3.81 ERA in 24 relief appearances. He allowed one run in 1 1/3 innings in the postseason.

With White on the DL, newly acquired Brian Rose will fill the role of righthanded set-up man in the bullpen. Rose was acquired by the Mets from the Colorado Rockies last week.
