O&A Board Veteran Registered: Feb. 01	OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA (TICKER) -- Charlie Garner did not have to go very far to find a new home. One of the NFL's most versatile backs, Garner signed as a free agent with the Oakland Raiders on Friday. Financial terms were not disclosed, but ESPN is reporting the deal is for four years at $10.5 million, including a $2 million signing bonus. "I always had the Raiders in my mind," said Garner, who was an unrestricted free agent. "This is a great deal for me. We are going to do some great things here." Garner, 29, spent the last two seasons as a member of the San Francisco 49ers. He earned a Pro Bowl berth in 2000, rushing for 1,142 yards while adding 68 receptions for 647 yards and three scores. "He's an outstanding football player, a very productive back," said Raiders coach Jon Gruden. "He's versatile and tough. He can play here, there and anywhere on the football field." Considered to be injury-prone, the 5-9, 187-pound Garner has not missed a game over the last two seasons in which he has amassed a combined 3,553 yards rushing and receiving. Only Marshall Faulk, Eddie George and Edgerrin James have more yards over that span. With Oakland, Garner will complement Tyrone Wheatley in the backfield. Napoleon Kaufman, who served in that capacity last season, retired Wednesday to devote more time to his family and ministry. A 1994 second-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles, Garner has rushed for 4,632 yards and has 1,744 yards receving with 33 total touchdowns in 98 career games. Garner already has familiarity with Gruden's style.
