O&A Board Veteran Registered: Feb. 01 | COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Sid Fernandez retired again Saturday, his bid to make it back to the major leagues with the New York Yankees cut short by a sore knee. The 38-year-old left-hander, who had been out of baseball since 1997, surprisingly showed up at the Yankees' spring training camp in February with a minor league contract. He made one start for Triple-A Columbus, giving up three runs on three hits in two innings against Louisville on April 7, before going on the disabled list. Fernandez, 114-96 in 15 major league seasons, was part of the New York Mets' 1986 World Series championship team. Born in Hawaii, he pitched for the Mets from 1984-93. His last appearance in the major leagues was for Houston in 1997. He retired because of what was thought to be an elbow problem. The pain turned out to be related to a nerve in his neck. ~Matt/Froy from Jersey Official Protector of Gay Marco & SwampJunk...if he ever decides to post.

O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | You can't blame the guy for trying to make a comeback. At least he realized after only one minor league start that he didn't have it any more. Most completely make an ass of themselves before hanging it up. Smoke Weed Everyday
