| O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00  | Report: Seven teams vying for Yashin Yashin Seven teams have talked to the Senators about Alexei Yashin -- who may be traded by Saturday's draft -- the Ottawa Sun reported on Thursday. The Islanders, Rangers, Blackhawks, Kings, Stars, Lightning and Blues have all reportedly had discussions with the Senators. "If the Senators are going to make this trade, they're going to have to hit a home run with it," an NHL executive told the Sun on Wednesday. "You can't just give Alexei Yashin away because you can't afford to pay him. The guy has value. "He's still one of the top players in the NHL. His numbers show he's one of the best players in the world and you don't want a guy like that to come back and haunt you. You want a deal that is going to make your team better." Sources told the Sun that the Blackhawks have offered wingers Eric Daze and Mark Bell and defenseman Steve McCarthy for Yashin. The Blackhawks might be willing to meet Yashin's demands for a long-term contract, which could be as much as $10 million per season. The Islanders, who are the favorites in the Yashin sweepstakes, according to the Sun, can offer the Senators a chance to improve their position in the draft. "The problem with dealing Alexei Yashin right now is that you have no leverage whatsoever," said another NHL executive, who suggested the Senators sign him to a one-year contract, then try to trade him once the season begins.
