Well it seems that I virtually killed the Top 10 All Time post, by obnoxiously throwing numbers out there... so Lets try this instead

Who are the top 10 hitters currently playing

My top 10:
1 Todd Helton
2 Alex Rodriguez
3 Manny Ramirez
4 Vladimir Guerrero
5 Barry Bonds
6 Mike Piazza
7 Sammy Sosa
8 Jeff Bagwell
9 Jason Giambi
10 Juan Gonzalez

Just another observation of insanity.

I think coming up with a list like this may even be harder than an alltime top 10. I'm not even going to try right now, being as I know my list wouldn't be complete. The only choice I don't necessarily agree with is Gonzo. I think he strikes out a little too much to be on the list. Also, is this list based on this year only? I would think it would be tough to leave Junior off even if he is having a down year.

it is so tough to narrow it down to just ten. while i don't disagree with anyone on your list, i think a guy who often gets overlooked is derek jeter. since 1996, he has more hits than anyone in the majors, and he is consistently around 200 hits every year.

also when nomar garciaparra is healthy, there are not too many who are better. ted williams even called him the best red sox hitter ever!

Impossible to make a list like that now. If you wanted to say who has the best swing, that could work. But not the best hitters.

This is very difficult, you have to judge on the whole career of the player, not people who have only had two or three great seasons as of late. In no order the best active hitters are...

1. Mike Piazza
2. Bary Bonds
3. Ken Griffey Jr.
4. Jeff Bagwell
5. John Olerud
6. Manny Ramierez
7. Mark Macgwire
8. Alex Rodriguez
9. Sammy Sosa
10. Edgar Martinez

No offense Francine, but putting Boone on that list is like putting Brady Anderson on the list 5 years ago. One great year. I'm not saying Boone's not a great hitter, I just don't think he's proven he's a great hitter over a long enough time period.

Isnt Tony Gwynn still active?? Why is he not on any of your lists then? Thats why this is imposible to do.

Great hitters are harder to define than almost anything else in sports. This would be a hell of a lot easier if we were talking pitchers.

why not? ooh just cause i didnt play in the first softball game? pfft just watch lol

yeah this is tough cause Ichiro is tempting but the guys only just starting and what he did in chink land isn't exactly baseball. McGwire set the mark but his career has been injury plaugued and was never much of an average or contact hitter, unlike sosa who hits over 300 and has is on his way to his 4th straight 50 hr 135 rbi year. But hell let's try off the top of our heads.

1. Barry Bonds
2. Ken Griffey Jr.
3. Derek Jeter
4. Edgar Martinez
5. Todd Helton
6. Sammy Sosa
7. Alex Rodrigues
8. Nomar Garciaparra
9. tony Gwynn
10. Mark McGwire

Yeah Griffey went right over my head... Gwynn, is awesome but I was looking more at who I would take on my team right now. Garciaparra and Chipper were the guys who I wanted to put in there, but couldn't find room.

In a year or two I wonder if guys like Floyd, Berkman and Pujols will be worthy.

I tried to find People that I hate to see come up to bat in a big spot, the guy who seems to ALWAYS get a hit.

If you make the question "Who would you want on your team right now?" that changes alot. If I was doing a list of the 10 best hitters still in the league, I would have to put Gwynn on it. But if I had to pick 10 guys I would want on my team right now, he wouldn't be there. In that situation, here's my team:

1. Edgar Martinez
2. Todd Helton
3. Nomar Garciaparra
4. Ivan Rodriquez
5. Barry Bonds
6. Ichiro Suzuki
7. Bret Boone
8. Manny Ramirez
9. Chipper Jones
10. Vlad Guerrero
