O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | Guerin awarded one-year, $5.1 million deal -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By Brian A. Shactman ESPN.com It's not John LeClair's landmark $7 million from last summer, but Bill Guerin's arbitration award isn't chop liver. Especially to the cash-conscious Boston Bruins. After almost a weeklong delay, Guerin's arbitration decision was handed down on Wednesday and the right winger will earn $5.1 million next season. It is the second-largest amount in NHL arbitration history. Guerin, who is set to be an unrestricted free agent after next season, gets a hefty raise over the $3.2 million he earned in 2000-01. The winger asked for about $6 million for one year, while the Bruins offered half that. "Of course I was (nervous going in) -- that was definitely a concern -- but it wasn't nearly as bad as I anticipated," Guerin said. The Bruins acquired Guerin from Edmonton early last season, and the winger set career highs in goals (40) and points (85) over 85 games. He has 215 career goals. There had been negotiations for a long-term deal, but Guerin could test the free-agent market. "We haven't had any discussions on that," said Guerin's agent Bob Murray regarding the player's future. "Both sides need to digest the decision." E-Mail Me METS will go ALL THE WAY THIS YEAR !!!!!!!!!!! (ok maybe not this year but i aint chainging this) Yankees & the Braves SUCK !!!!!!!!
