Installing spyware on people's computers outta be against the law.
Unfortunately, it's as legally accepted as cookies are on your internet browsers. Both serve the same purpose of documenting where you go on the web, and sending that info back to the company.

That's why when using programs that access the internet (let's say KaZaA, for instance), check the EULA-- End User License Agreement. It has to state that it will install spyware (it may not be labelled as such in the EULA, though). If you disagree with their use of such products, don't finish the install (or get KaZaA Lite, which eliminates the spyware aspect).

And be careful about websites which ask you to download certain ActiveX controls or other programs that are "required" to view their site. Those are almost certainly spyware (or God knows what else).

Yeah thanks. Just a hypothetical here. well not really. My work is giving us new computers next week. If they take this computer away and want to look into things closely will they be able to see that, for example, I hang out on here all day. Even if I use one of these history temporary internet clearing thingamabobbies?

I have already started systematically deleting all the crap off of this thing just want to do as much as I can before they come take this thing away.

Ideally they'll leave this computer here and let me buy it for a fraction of the cost (as they have in the past with really old dinasours) but I don't see it happening as this thing is only a couple years old.
