Ok, saw the 12:01am showing Tuesday night, and I have 2 things to say..
LONG ass movie (3 hours 30 minutes about)
Worth EVERY GOD DAMNED MINUTE!!
(commentary to follow, if you aren't familiar with the story do NOT READ!!)
Ok, first off, I'd like to congratulate Peter Jackson on being able to string the ending of Two Towers for Frodo and Sam to well beyond halfway through the Return of the King.
The ending started to feel a bit like a run-on sentence.. but it was the true ending from the book. (I'm talking about the very very end here, the raising of the Shire was not included in the movie)
I guess the best thing I can say is... being someone who has read the LotR trilogy an average of once a year since the age of 7 (and the Hobbit since age 5) I am not only satisfied with the film(s), I am highly pleased!
I was actually proud when I walked out of the theater, because I knew after seeing the ending of the story... all sorts of people who may have commented on my obsession will now understand my passion for this story.
Tolkien tells a great tale.. Jackson made it "look" awesome!
